a thought:

I wonder if it violates SO's francishee contract to order direct from SO's supplier's instead of through SO itself? It's got to, right? Can an SO truck carry other things besides SO or SO authorized gear if the driver/indepedent franchisee is operating under license from SO?

you need to think about it the other way.
it will violate the agreememt with SO for the supplier to sell to anyone but snap on corp.
if it says SO...
if it has a SO specific part number...
if it is in a box that says SO or their info or part number...
it would be illegal to sell to anyone other than the SO corp

you could buy one almost just like it ir one that is the equalavant to it from the suplier that did not have the SO name

I company I worked for use to send stuff out to be made. those same places made lots of stuff for lots of people. if you have a friend there you can get a couple 'out the back door' but generally what they are doing is giving you one 'under the table' to make some goodwill with you. as far as calling them up and asking to buy or get one...nope

Bob:

I'm told that one loop hole to this is "production overruns". Where a company purposely makes extra stuff in order to sell on teh "gray market." They justify extra production because of "spoilage" or antiicpation of changes of order, etc, etc. Anyway, if you've got the branded item, I've been told that there are times when you can sell it to other than the company for whom you make it. Never done it myself, don't know if it's true, never checked out the legality of it.
