Snap on Classic 78

Hey guys quick opinions needed. Im about to graduate from my college in may from the Autobody/collision program. We have a snap on rep here at the school who promotes the student excellence program to offer us students about 50% off retail prices on snap on tools. Im looking for opinions on a tool box. we are offered the classic 78 "Kra2422" with 2 full wide drawers in any color for $2100, plus it comes with a $400 snap on truck gift card and a certificate guaranteeing the box for trade in within 3 years on full retail price. Im just not sure if i want to jump on this deal or buy a bigger Krl box for a little more if i found a deal. Here is the link to this box

I bought mine in 2009 w the SEP and used the gift card to get the 1/2 deep metric impact sockets. Never regretted it...worked at a dealership up until 2012 and had no problems...now it makes a great home box

I bought a 78 on SEP a few years ago when I went back to school. Used the gift card to get the Blue Point split cart, traded the box in last year for 3x my money on a new KRL1023/1072. One of the apprentices at the shop bought it off the SO dealer on financing $35wk, never even left the building.

For the deal I feel like I really can't go wrong. And I figure it's cheap enough to where I really wouldn't have a problem getting my money out of it in the future if I decided to upgrade

As long as you have the $$'s it's not a bad deal. What you pay is about what the box is worth used.

Personally, I'd prioritize tools first which are a much better deal then boxes using the SO student purchase pgm. As long as you get all the tools you want then go for it. However at $2100 you're getting close to used KRL price territory.

Fortunately my parents funded me my tools as an early graduation gift so I have a whole stash of brand new snap on tools just craving a nice box to be stored in

For a new one, from a dealer, with a gift card and trade value in guarantee that sounds like a great deal.

Whats the worse case, getting a top later on, or trading it in?
Kinda win, win realy, if you have the tools, and room to grow still.
A cart with most used tools makes more room in it. So i say go for it.

I bought a Classic 78 myself back in 2007 on the SEP program through my Ford ASSET program. I still have it, just added a whole condominium to it! (Hutch, overhead storage, side locker, etc etc). That box is a good toolbox for the money, IMO. I have mine absolutely STUFFED to the gills with tools now, and it doesn't skip a beat. Top drawer is double stacked now, it is that packed.

It is better to buy as big a box as you can afford from the get-go. It gives you room to grow, as well as saving money, since you won't have to upgrade for a good long while.

I bought a Classic 78 when I was just starting out back in 2007 at a Ford dealership as an apprentice. The box served me well until just recently when I begun to run out of space. Two weeks ago I bought the 10 drawer matching top chest for it. Now I have to work on filling that up lol.

I would take the deal if it were me.

Keep it in great shape and when you outgrow it trade it in on the one you want. I would lay money that you get more out of it as a trade then you paid for it.

personally i would say buy a cheap used box first since your starting off fresh from tech school. i graduated 3 years ago with a Krsc cart and a craftsman box. i grew out of that in 1 year bought a classic 78, grew out of those 3 boxes in a year after. today i own a krl 1032. i would of saved money if i just skipped the classic since it outgrows really fast

I would get it for now, you can always trade up later but it's still a good sized box and most body guys have way less tools than an auto tech. Anytime you can get a great deal on a new box like that might as well it will have great trade value if you want a KRL or EPIC in a few years. You won't really lose money on it if you keep it nice.

You can't go wrong with that deal. Even though I sell used tools, I always encourage students to buy all the half off Snappy they can without financing. You will never get that deal again.
