So the Rock and Roll cab truck came to my shop today. I am deciding between these 2 boxes.

http://store.snapon.com/KRL722-Series-Roll-Cabs-Roll-Cab-Double-Bank-11-Drawers-Red-P649528.aspx

I can get either one for roughly the same price. Like a $50 difference. I am leaning toward the Classic 96 because of more room and more work surface area. So if you have owned either one please give me your opinion. Please no HF 56" or 72" recommendations. I know the prices and sizes. I dont want one. I want a great USA made box that will be the last box I will ever buy. This box will be at my home shop.

HF44 uh, oh, sorry, reflex.

From a non-pro's view, I'd rather have the KRL, but wouldn't complain about either...

If you get enough tools you will want two.
I have one from 30 years ago about the size of the KRL722 one, it is great. I do not think the classic series is a beefy as a KRL one. I visited the Snap on toolbox truck and the the discussion was the classic is built for the home shop and the KRL series is built for the pro guys. The classic did not feel draw pull wise as good as the drawers on a KRL. Even if the classic has more work space and rated for 1200 less pounds of tools.
The one I am looking at is KRL1032 and planning to put 3/16 plate of Aluminum as a work surface.

But I am sure either of the boxes would crush the HF ones in a runaway toolbox shop accident.

I have what is basically a Classic 40" box as a work box (issued, not brought). They are sturdy in their own right, I doubt you would wear it out as a home box. I have mine loaded heavy with tools and it's holding up.

I would say that since you are choosing between a Classic and a KRL722, this wont be your last toolbox. Buy the classic and have more room to grow right now, and years down the road you can upgrade to an Epiq and buy your final toolbox. Both will serve you just fine, both will be durable. Its not like the classic is going to fall apart on you. If anything happens, lifetime warranty.

Im leaning towards the classic because there is more room. And a larger work surface which is important. There didn't seem to much difference between the.722 and the 96 other than size. Now the.1022 is a different story . This will be my last box becuase it is going to be in my home shop.

I like the classic 96's. I was going to get one until I ran across a deal on a matco 6s. Ive got a classic 78 in my garage and its held up fine.

I will third the recommendation for the Classic '96 since you stipulated it is for your home. Never had a KRL722 myself, but recently purchased a '96 for home use and it is hopefully the "last box I need"...but not necessarily want (1023 if I hit the lottery). Deciding factor for me was the work surface size and the drawer layout. I personally did not need the extra drawer weight capacity of the KRL for home use as I don't need to overstuff it, but the drawer layout allows me plenty of room to spread out, at least for now.

I don't think you will disappointed with either, but based on your deciding factors listed, it sounds like the KRA may suit you better. I am 100% satisfied with the Classic '96.

Classic and Masters are differentiated mainly by casters and drawer slides. That's where the weight discrepancy comes from, otherwise they're very similar. Things like frame and drawer steel gauge and paint process are identical.

I own 2 Snap On tool boxes. Both were manufactured before Snap On came out with tool box "lines" (Epiq, Masters,Classic! Etc.). My bottom roll cab is a similar model to the 722 but only has one full length upper drawer. ISTR it was called a "low profile" something or other. The foot prints are the same but they no longer manufacture it. That being said I have my top drawer loaded with all of my sockets (SAE & metric) all my drivers, extensions and what not. It is a heavy drawer. I am a pro so I am in my box 40 + hrs per week. I honestly open and close that drawer 30-40 times each day. The box is 20 +\- years old. The drawer still opens and closes like the day I bought it. Amazing if you ask me. My top box is probably 15 yrs old and was called a "road box", it means that it has handles to lift it by. It would probably fit in the "Classic" line up. It does not have the same quality of slides that the bottom box has. If I didn't have anything to compare it to I'd say it was a fantastic tool box.
Problem is, I do :)
Which box do you really want?
Good luck

There really was not a noticeable quality difference that i could tell any way. I may order the.96 Monday. I am thinking Electric Orange for the color with chrome trim. They couldn't do brown and white so chrome is fine. Not sure on the work surface yet. Its either wood or stainless or stainless rhino lined.

As others have said the 96 is great for home use. It's actually a great box for pro use too. I have numerous customers with them and they are loaded with tools with no failures with the slides For them it was a space issue in the shop.

Just to be difficult, I would pick the Classic 96, but the KRA2423 to get the 5" and 3" deep drawers for the added flexibility.

I am also considering this drawer configuration. http://store.snapon.com/KRA2432-Cla...ll-Cab-Classic-96-12-Drawers-Red-P645418.aspx
I am getting a great deal on this box. Getting cheaper new than they go for used around here. Im sure if I wait I MIGHT find a good deal. But for the price Im getting going new would be the best route, I am also really not concerned about resale value either. I amd buying it with no plans to ever sell it.

I had a classic 96.......I got a deal when I wasn't wrenching. It was loaded to the max........As a home box it when for 5 years and worked like new when I sold it. I needed money, I have since gone back to wrenching and now all my stuff is in a 56 top and bottom from strictly toolboxes and a krsc46. So it was LOADED. It held up great. I doubt you could wear it out for home use. The shallower boxes are nice for home cause they don't stick out so far. Keep in mind that you still have to open the drawers if your working on a vehicle, so you need way more room than just the boxes footprint. You need space for the drawer to come out, and for you so stand in front of it............I only say this cause most of the shops I worked at have space issues and some guys with the deepest boxes have had issues with that. I even had trouble in my garage with my classic 96.

So what box did you end up getting? I too was visited by the Rock 'N Roll Cab Truck. I choose the KRL722 in Silver with Black Trim. Still have probably 3 weeks before it arrives. I didn't have a need for more drawer space, and the offers were better on the 722.

I've always been a fan of the long drawers. But my pardner has a classic, and they have more room than you'd think.

The good news is....you'll be happy no matter which one you get.
