I keep coming across a good bit of these for pretty cheap. Does anybody have one? Do you like it? Why do they seem to be so cheap? I know KRL is king but I can't afford one just yet lol. Thanks in advance.

The Classic 96 is a good box. The main difference between this box and a KRL box is the drawer slides.

had a 96 top and bottom box.liked it if it was a stationary box,only hting it wasnt easy to roll with the top and bottom full,maybe just the bottom its easy,but oh well.bought mine new,first snapon box,had 2 since then to the present one.wont trade this one in yet! unless a deal posts itself!a 9k box for less than 2500!but that was with my trade in!

Also the folds of the sheetmetal on the sides, right? And gauge is lower, right?
At least that's what I understood made the KRL a heck of a nicer box.

They are less expensive because that aren't built to the same size/quality standards as Snap-Ons premium boxes. They are certainly better than many out there plus you buy bragging rights.

My "neighbor" tech has one. He got it about 3mths ago and he loves it, it seems like a pretty solid box. Ive gone through it a bunch of times and cant find anything i dont like.......EXCEPT the work surface. If you get a 96, Id suggest getting an upgraded top (stainless steel, butcher block, etc.) Other then that, great amount of box for the money.

The drawers of the Classic series are the same drawers that would go in a KRL box. The case of the box is different but I am not aware of what gauge of steel is used. I have not seen any failures in any of the classic series of boxes and they have been on the market for close to 5 years now and there are a bunch of them out there.

same here chad. no failures and I have not even had a drawer slide mess up. I have sold a ton of these and the kra2411.
I take that back. after sitting in 22 inches of water for 2 days the slides were full of sand/mud. that kind of killed the smooth action. but from regular use they are wonderful.

I see a lot of younger techs with these - I think a lot of them are picking them up at discount from whatever school (UTI, Wyotech, etc) they attended.
As for quality, a couple guys at my shop have them - no complaints that I've heard.

My understanding is the structural support on the KRL is significantly different (and very much superior to the KRA). At least that's how the SO man explained it to me. I can see where it would make a difference if you had a lot of weight in it. I'm almost out of room for the Classic 78 I've got, and though I won't get the KRL, I'm tempted by one that's used for less than a year for a serious discount on the truck.

I had a KRA2418 for 2 years and absolutely loved it. I never had any problems. I upgraded to a 68" Epiq. Nothing wrong with the Classic 96. I upgraded because I had wrenches in 4 drawers plus my cart so I wanted to "consolidate" kinda. If the Classic 96 would have had the 2 top wide deawers, I'd still have that box. I liked having a triple bank and quite honestly, I miss that box. I love my Epiq but miss my KRA2418.

guy at work has a classic 78 and its a great box only had one problem with it drawer slides on the top big drawer came apart and when pulling out the big drawer the balls all came out of the slides the drawer came crashing down along with all the guys sockets and ratchets and misc. things stored in the drawer... on the other hand the drawer was probably overloaded

it all happened within a couple days and the snap on guy replaced his slides and his drawer after the incident

the aircraft carrier box, I would have gotten the 96 If I could have, the 78 was the biggest box I could get on a student discount and im running out of room! I think the KRL's are taller so its even more space. I havent had any problems with my 78 or with the quality, I wish they included better quality liners though!! I hate when the cheap out on something like that. I worked with a few lead techs that had 96s, but I've known a lot more that just had a regular stack and sideboxes. The guy next to me has a giant 3 bay "chrome edition" box that makes mine and the guy on the other side of me's tech1000 look like a tiny POS rookie box (okay it is a rookie box).

the price would have to go up about 250 bucks on the kra2411 to get the better drawer liners. you basically need the liner kit out of a krl761b or a krl722a and they will drop right in place on most of the drawers.

love my classic 96 i want to get a stainless steel top and riser when i have the cash. here in canada students dont get any discount from snap on. mac gives one time only half price up to 15000. pretty good but i like snap on boxes better. this is my second SO box and am very happy with it.

They are a great box. The 24" depth worked perfectly for me. A 29" would have been a little much as I'm cramped for space. Every inch matters. I've got a huge amount of weight in mine and have no issues. I'm saving for the top box right now!Attachments

Not always true this Wyotech kid is the lead tech of his shop and just went from a kra2411 to a krl1024.

sick...^^^^ mines got tone of weight in it to and even with the 50" wide drawers they still roll smooth.
I have one and it works great!! Don't worry about overloading it. I have 1"to 2" wrenches in the bottom drawer and 3/4" sockets( shallow, deep, impact etc.) in the next one up. My guy told me if I overload it it will be a waranty item.

SO has some great hardened plastic parts trays that slide along the top of the bottom drawer of the box (and some of the shallower drawers) that I've been using on my Classic 78. A great organizer and time saver. Made in the USA and about $33-$38 off the truck.
