I was interested to follow the Snap On Promo thread. I too have several interesting items. But, what about the commemerative tools, ie, engraved wrenches, socket sets etc. They seem to have the same value as regular tools. When I bought them I thought, (don't laugh to hard) these should be worth something some day. Well I was wrong, I might as well use the stuff. It might be kinda fun to use a black chrome-gold engraved wrench. What do ya'll think? Leave them on the self or use them?

My dad bought a box of sockets at a garage sale. In it was a gold plated chrysler socket that was cracked from use. Most of the gold had wore off. Someone musta thought the same thing as you

One thing I hate with collectible items, is when a company labels it "collectible!"

Then everyone buys one thinking it's going to be worth something someday (I used to do that with comic books), but now everyone that care's about that item already has it! Not cool anymore. A lot of that stuff is worth less than you even paid for it, and all along you never touched it, it's been unused for years, hoping it would resell for more money.

This seems to be happening with the Nascar ratcheting screwdrivers also, they don't seem to sell as well as the other colors without signatures.

I've purchased many SO collectible wrench and socket sets over the years. I've recently sold them as well. I got more than I paid for them but I paid in 80s dollars and received payment in 2011 dollars so actually I lost money on them. I considered using them but they were just to pretty for that. On a side note every set I sold went overseas.:dunno:

If you want to collect, buy the old rare pieces in good condition, not the new stuff that there are thousands of sets.

That's for damn sure. I'm still not sure why or even how I have Dale Earnhardt ratcheting screwdrivers and ratchets ....Im not even a NASCAR fan!! Good deal, moment of weakness or both I guess. :dunno:
