SNAP-ON Collectors ? & Added STARRETT DIAL INDICATOR

Howdy everybody! My first post here until I have more time.

I have an oold SO 1/2" drive ratchet, the head is a flat teardrop shape and the handle is kind of an I beam shape. My local SO guy told me "all I can tell you is it was made before 1935".

If anyone is interested I'll post the model # and other info shortly. This tool is in very nice condition, it belonged to my Grandfather. Money is tight so this is one of several things I'll have for sale soon.

I'll also be able to post pics, give some refferences (where I'm known), etc.

Any interest in this item?

Well I'm glad to see interest in the old SO!

I've also got some other assorted stuff for example; an almost NEW & UNUSED (I mean I'm not sure if has been!) Starrett "Last Word" dial indicator #711LCSZ and acc.
I think I've got some photos of the DI that I can post now, tomorow I'll get some of the Snap-On ratchet and other stuff.

BTW the only place I really spend time online is at ROP www.realoldspower.com I'm also Graniteman there, we have a buy/sell feedback section at ROP and I've sold 1 car and several smaller items there. I've been on there for 5 or 6 years at least. My eBay total is only about 170 sales but my feedback is 100%. I'm not into guys so I won't try to screw you and I expect the same!

I really don't know what a fair price is for the ratchet, I'll try to do some more research. I had it for sale a couple of years ago and some pinhead offered $35..................no it's nicer than that. It's not rusty and works like new. I did pull it apart and clean and lube it recently.

Well the thing was not the amount of the offer, it was the insulting smartass attitude he used. I don't talk to people like this guy did (unless they've already pushed my buttons), I treat everyone politely and with respect until they are rude or disrespectful to me, then it's a different story, you know what I mean krusty? I'm not a kid and I guess I just don't have time for people who want to go out of their way to be rude.
If this old ratchet is only worth that kind of money that's fine, I'll just put it away since it was my grandfather's and my little girl can have it.

if it was your family members, there is no value to it that can match your, if it were my grandfathers, it would be in my box to pass on... not to sell for any reason... just my 2 cents worth, keep it and cherish it...

This dial indicator was my late father-in-laws, he was the tool & die guy at a small mfg. company. He had multi sets of everything, including his work tools at the company and his personal tools at home in his own shop. I don't know if this item has been used or not? As you can see from the pics it comes in it's orginal case, in it's original box.
If it was ever used it couldn't have been more than once or twice. I think I'll leave it at that and just say that I'm confident anyone will be statisfied with that description. My reason for selling it is I do need some extra cash right now but this is really more of a DI than I need, I have 3 or 4 other good but more basic dial indicators and I use one 4 or 5 times a year.
In other words, I don't need the "Last Word" in DI's but you know if you do! I'm asking $120 OBO and I'll pay the shipping.Here are some pics of the Snap-on ratchet #71N: If anyone is interested in the ratchet make an offer.

That's interesting and it's surprising also but who knows. As I said above my local SO guy wasn't much help just saying it was pre 1935.
This ratchet does have some sentimental value to me as it was my Granfather's and he died in '69, but I have other things of his that I wouldn't ever consider selling like guns. I recently had a hip replacement and haven't worked for months, I also have a 5 year old daughter. With Chistmas coming and money being short I know that if my Grandpa was here today he say "sell it if you need the money".
I guess if I could get $100 for the ratchet I'd sell it, and it sounds like that's unlikely so..........................................

Its not pre 1935, s/o started making the 71N in about 1936, I think these were discontinued sometimes in the 40s or so. They are very common and sell for much less that 100. I would keep it, since it has family history.

I picked one up on ebay last month for $25 if I remember right.It's in good shape and works excellent once cleaned and lubed.Just so you have an idea of what they sell for.Mine's a M not an N but should be comparable value wise.

In between your selector there is what looks to be a G.If it is it's probably 1945 for a manufacture date.

Thanks for the info, I'm glad to know what the ratchet is worth or maybe I should say not worth. I don't use it but I have and it works better than a new one.
Also good catch on the up-side-down G ,you're correct that's what it is.
So was it made in '36 or '45 or is it still a question?
Guess I'll put it away for another 50 years.
