closed at the request of snap-on maybe? Would be a shame if so.

It appears that it got nuked. My post is gone too. I was enjoying all of tjmonsen's pics and info, too bad. Did some ******* contest break out?

don't think it got out of hand. Guessing Snap-On contacted Ryan and asked that it be pulled. Some of the pictures had dealer package pricing in them, maybe they didn't want that info out there. Hope TJ didn't get into any trouble because of his kindness to satisfy the tool junkies with his Snap-On ****.

Agree. Since so few of us get on the truck, it was cool to see what is coming. Plus, it might make me actually track down a truck!

Most of those intros are not really confidential. If so, they would have banned cameras. Probably just someone got **** hurt over something.

I don't get why, even at the request of snap-on, that the thread be taken down. One of their dealers put up the info, the pictures aren't undercover by any means...I guess if it were me I just would've told them tough luck...

Can a mod tell us what happened? If Snap on had it pulled, that will piss me off. I already don't care for the way they do business in a lot of ways, but that would be ridiculous.

I'm not wearing my aluminum hat but, you know Snap on gets ebay to pull people's listings because they quote from the book of Snap on (catalog).
To me at least, I wouldn't think that it would be much of a stretch for them to pull photographs of a dealer only event showing the latest and greatest Snap on goodies for all to see including folks who work for those other tool truck brands. It was a great thread while it lasted. Those of you with dealers can partake of the greatness as the new stuff reaches your dealer's truck.
I'm only guessing but, I envision phone calls being made to the supplier of the photographs that bordered on a significant emotional event, and that he may have yanked the photos and thread in the name of future employment security. We must carry on and remain calm. :dunno:

That is most likely the case, even Google "Lost" its cached version of the page which is usually always still around.

That really is a shame, I really enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes.
I feel like SO wants to tell us what we need, instead of us having a say in it.

It'd been a long while since I have been on this forum because of the BS that was being done. I was in Nashville this past week with my dealer and was talking to a buddy today that told me about the convention thread and thought I would check back in and see if things had changed.

Looks like the same ****.

Hopefully, when I check back in a year or so, things might be better. Until then I will stay over on the gun boards where we can have good debates and threads don't disappear.

Adios.

It was a nice thread.
Hopefully the super giant ratchet pic can be posted again without Snap on getting snapped off.

Personally I think you guys here are the ones a little "**** hurt"....I can respect TJ and/or Snappy's decision to yank em and the whole thread (in the original thread I mentioned I had received a couple pics myself, yet I didn't post them, and will not)...it was a dealer only event! Could it have been handled differently...sure...they could have taken pics themselves with any offending info removed and posted them all on their own site, Sure.... BUT lets not forget here that participation in all these deals is at the franchisee's discretion. Heck a dealer/franchisee may be participating and not passing the deals on to the customers or only to select customers. Its a free market.

Gotta remember that each truck is independently owned & operated. By having the pics here, I can see some franchisee's nuts getting his nuts in a vice by his customers...they walk on the truck demanding XYZ Green Deal or whatever...because I saw it online type thing. They may not WANT to participate in that deal, or swing those deals to specific customers first.

As for why they don't BAN phones...I bet its for exactly the reason I personally got pics & a call from my guy..He showed me the Lit on the Vette boxes a few weeks prior, knew I was interested...so at the show on Saturday he calls me "Hey Dave, were you interested in the Vette KRSC246 or the KRL1054...cant remember...sending you a pic to get you ***** for one, LOL".

Sorry, but without guys like me, Snappy wouldn't have money for a convention. I personally keep a couple of the dealers in my area fed every year. I deserve to see what they see. If they think differently, I hope they can find a guy that spends what I do a year to replace me. There are plenty of conventions that I've gone to over the years that are for "** only" that I take and post pictures of. It gets good information out there, and gets people salivating over new products. I actually get ramped up when I see convention pictures that aren't for the general public. It makes me feel like I'm getting a chance to buy stuff most people don't know about yet, and gets me spending money faster. I'm a die hard Snap-On fan, but when a dealer gets in trouble for posting for me what I want to see at the convention, that irks me quite a bit.
As far as pricing goes, I still don't get why it matters. So what if we see what dealers are paying? If I see that the Snappy dealer pays 1.00 for 10,000 ratchets, and I get on the truck and demand a ratchet for a penny, the dealer can still tell me to get bent. If every dealer has the same bottom dollar, I can't buy the ratchet for a penny anywhere; I have to pay retail anyways. So who cares if I see what he pays for it? Same goes for the promo stuff. I buy it all the time; the dealer shows me exactly what it cost him, and tells me what his marked up price is. Do I say, "Oh, you only paid X amount of dollars, that's what I'm paying." No, I pay him what he's asking, or I won't get the product.

You can call me "butthurt," but I'm actually one of many that ALLOWS Snap-On to exist. They owe the consumer, not the other way around. I'm not saying we should get the inside track on anything, but once we do, they're far better off leaving threads alone that already exist than angering those of us that drive their business. Just my .02....again...

I didn't see the harm in it. It's not like we wouldn't be talking about the convention deals we picked up from our dealers on this site any way, and the pricing. I hope tj's not in trouble over this, I thought it was nice of him to share.

Snap On makes far more money selling "franchises" than tools to you.

Are you sure? Without guys like me, they would have no franchises. Not to mention I called a local dealer, and because of the pictures posted here, ordered the new Snap-on floor mat, and 2 14.4V drill/ratchet in green...So yeah, it benefits Snap-On to leave our pictures alone.

Saying "SO makes more off of franchises than selling to you" is an asinine comment. That's like saying that because McD's sells franchises they sell lots of burgers. They can't sell without a consumer, and the guy that buys the most should be most important to the company. At least that's how it works at my company...we give preference to the repeat customers over the new ones. Sure, we do the same good work, but if a repeat asks for special treatment, we give it them. IT'S JUST GOOD BUSINESS.

Alright I gotta rant here....

So I can't find a single Snap On rep that 1, is in my area, or 2, will even return a phone call or text. I've tried several in my area including all of the ones that show up on the Snap On web site (about a dozen) and they are either all flakes, out of business, don't want my money (because they don't return my calls), or all of the above.

This Chad McFarlane character seemed like a good dude. Anyone who uses social media to promote their business is on the frontlines of progressive marketing in my opinion and someone I would love to do business with. So I liked him on Facebook. So he posts specials from the show and I respond saying I'll take one of each. I wake up to find that my comments were deleted.

I've spent over $7K on SO boxes and tools in the last 3 months...all from local sellers, eBay, and others....WTF is wrong with Snap On franchisee's? I guess eBay and GJ Classifieds get my business from here on out. Pretty poor representation by SO if you ask me....

That I know of? They shut down 1 or 2 of the monthly special threads posted here because they didn't want people knowing what was coming.

I wonder what the benefit would be in that? I call that free advertising. Its not like the fliers contain Minute man two Ballistic missile launch codes. :dunno:

It's nothing personal to you, they're not allowed to sell online/eBay or to anyone not on their route. They sign an agreement.

That solicitation might have been what got the thread closed.

All of the pics that were in this thread are still online. You can see them by "Liking" Chad McFarlane on Facebook. All of the pics that were on here plus more are there.

I think they are using reverse psychology. They wanted those pictures with the prices posted. They later take them down so you think it was great price. You then ask for the price from your dealer, but it was the price they were going to quote anyways.

Genius...pure genius. :D

I don't care to participate in a discussion of forum politics; BTDT and I post here in part because f.p. can ruin a good place to discuss other stuff.

That said, I find it curious SO as a seeming non-sponsor would have pull for a thread to get pulled with regard to "my forum, my rules."

So I will waste my time in assuming it's their legal efforts which, as shows on eBay, can have some leverage. So be it. Pre-release info is not that exciting; the product will be on the truck soon enough.

A much more interesting topic for another thread would be the intricacies of no eBay or online sales by franchisses. The efforts of a business to insulate their product pricing from the influences of a more competitive market are interesting.
