Last time I was on a Snappy truck I looked over their new battery grinder. Looks nice and somehow familiar. It hit me today where I've seen the low profile grinder head.

I might be mistaken but they look to have the same angle drive on them. Kudos for going with Metabo parts of that is indeed what was done.

This reminded me of some other mix and match power tools I ran across at a trade show earlier this year. I was checking out the Fein lineup at a vendor booth and was struck by the similarity of their driver and an M18 driver.

I don't think it's Earth shattering to believe manufacturers would source parts from each other. I just happened to notice these.

In your basement...seriously, go look now!
You'll find that a lot with tool brands: Ryobi sources from Ridgid (JobMax compatability, Ryobi being generally compatible with Craftsman Nextec. TTI makes Milwaukee and Ryobi, B&D makes PC, Dewalt, and Bostitch, and Bosch makes Dremel and Skil. All of these lines can borrow from their cousins or other OEM parts makers.

The country of origin is listed as Germany, so I'm fairly certain the entire tool is built under contract by Metabo. I would just pick up the cordless Metabo version if your not already invested in the Snap-on 18V battery system, since it's far cheaper and the Metabo features a 5.2ah battery compared to the 4.0ah battery of the Snap-on.

I kinda want the snapon grinder but for 700 bucks they can keep it. I'd rather get 2 m18 fuels at that price.

one of my co workers was about to get the grinder from SO, that is until both his 14 month old batteries wont hold a charge anymore.

from the way it sounds "out of warranty" seemed to be the phrase of the day.......
