Hi Everyone,

I just bought a used Snap-On Counselor II MT3000A. It came with the user manual but I'm hoping someone out there has a service/repair manual for it too. Being so old it's bound to need some work eventually!

I'm also missing two of the cables; The Main Lead Assembly (MT3000A200) and Inductive Pickup (MT60A08R).

I have some questions about specific connector numbers and will be posting separate questions about those.

If anyone lives in the Portland, OR area and would let me come over to examine the cables (not disassemble or anything like that) I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!
Larry.

UPDATED August 29, 2024

I found the Low Amps Probe manual and have added it to this post.

UPDATED August 19, 2024.

Whoops! Part 2 of the manual had a section out of order. I fixed that and have replaced it. Sorry about that!

UPDATED August 9, 2024.

I found a newer version of the user manual. The first one I uploaded is my copy printed in 1996. I found a version from 2000 thanks to Bill Brown (wbrowniv). It's nearly twice as long as my copy! But, it's also a larger file size so I broke it into two parts.

END UPDATE.

Hi everyone,

I found the PDF copies of the User Manual and the Service Manual for the MT3000A!

I've attached them here. If there's some better place here, like a library perhaps, please let me know.

Good luck!
Larry.

Just like Larry, I just got a Snap ON Counselor II and I also live in the Portland OR area. Luckily mine works and it appears to be the perfect tool for diagnosing various issues with my restored 1955 Cadillac. I am ALSO missing some cables and fittings for my unit and would appreciate any info on sources.

Just an FYI to the folks out there!
The Portland Oregon Swap Meet takes place this weekend at the Portland Expo Center, I will have a booth there for my business, which is college licensed auto products like decals and license plate frames with college logos on them. In this case, Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers.
Here's the link: www.portlandautoswapmeet.com

I will also have for sale 4 Snap On Counselor 2's and 1 Counselor. I acquired these units and lots of accessories in order to get a complete Counselor 2 for myself.
The units for sale are all spiffed up and they work!! Looking to sell for around $800.00 for the one with the most options, a little less for ones with fewer goodies. All have KRA 495 roll cabs in almost like new shape, binder manuals, 4 gas analyzers, remotes, harnesses, and various accessories. I'm also including a USB flash drive with a ton of info like videos, unit and service manual PDF's, scans of documents and Snap On brochures and other misc. stuff.
I need to sell'em to keep peace in the family (wife!)
If anyone on this forum is in the PDX area and interested they could get a really fun toy to play with!!

Nice to see that time chip is still available to buy. I used the dremel tool to grind around the internal battery and just soldered in two wires and ran 2032 3v battery just glued on the outside of the board, this way I can change it for cheap. 1 year after and it still holds time and date.
Super Capacitor is on the mother board next to communications board, but it never goes bad. It gets charged by turning the unit on, then holds the 5 volt power for 3 days.

Thank you Relimiting. The side of my C1 Super Capacitor states it is 5.5 Volts. I ordered one from Newark today.

I have a MT 1670 printer on the way, but I need a cable. It is 25 pin male on back of MT 3000 and 25 pin female on the printer. Is this a straght through cable or is it a null modem cable/

Thanks

if you get the printer MT1670 user manual, please post the pages on how to use it because you can't find them on internet
Update: Someone else posted the manual in PDF in another post in this forum. Thanks

Oh god, the days when we had to worry about this. I used to have a breakout box where I could switch that stuff up easily. Switches to exchange 2&3, jumpers for others.

Online non specific to SO show straight thru, but I trust that very little. Buy a null modem adapter (if you can find one), and a straight thru cable, and you are set, just slightly clunky.

I wish I could find the service manual for the original counselor MT1665. I need to make leads for one unless I can find them used.

Jack_K I dug up my MT-1665 manual no info in there. But I do hope this helps. I looked at my lead set for my MT-1665 here's what I came up with if you want to make your own. BTW feel free to make fun of my drawing skills.

From the main 16 pin connector-

Pin 1 to yellow alligator clip
Pin 7 to white alligator clip
Pin 15 to Black alligator clip

From the main 16 pin connector to 9 pin #1 plug

Pin 4 to Pin 4
Pin 5 to Pin 3
Pin 6 to Pin 9
Pin 9 to Pin 5

From the main 16 pin connector to 9 pin secondary

Pin 8 to Pin 4
Pin 11 to Pin 3
Pin 12 to Pin 9
Pin 13 to Pin 7
Pin 14 to Pin 5
Pin 16 to Pin 1

Thanks for that.

I don't know how to tell you but that info was actually in the operating manual at the back, at least in the PDF I have. It doesn't give the connector part numbers so that is helpful.

What I'm unsure of is the pinout of the secondary and trigger clamps. The manual doesn't say. Are there any resistors, inductors or capacitors hidden in the clamp or connector shell? I suspect there isn't in this model but I want to be sure before I kill it.

Also if I could get the lengths of the leads it would be excellent. I know if I guess, they'll either be way too short or way too long.

OAL from main plug to the end of the 3 alligator clips is 14 feet.
Cable wrapped in flex loom from main plug down 6 feet at that point it is 4 separate wires
From main plug to 9 pin inductive pick up socket 6.6 feet.
From main plug to 9 pin capacitive pick up socket 11 feet.
From main plug to yellow, white, black 14 feet.

Capacitive pick up 9 pin male end
Pin 1 to Red
Pin 2 to Black
Pin 5 to Shield

I also included a scanned copy of the counselor worksheet in case you want to be all fancy lol.

Let me know if there is anything else you need.

Thanks, that is excellent. I have been chasing this information for a while. I will draw up full a diagram and post it.

I am crazy enough that I had saved photos of a worksheet and was considering trying to recreate it. That scan saves me doing so. I kind of want to take this machine to car club events. Having the worksheets may be good.

I think this is the correct wire to use as the colours match up.
