I do not use them a lot, but I prefer the flare nut style. Since I had access to some, I waited and picked some up cheap off of Ebay. (have under $60 for both sets)
Power steering lines are the main use that I have had for them.

the only flare nut type i use is a 17mm for some (diesel) fuel lines.

15/16" and over open end style for hydraulic tubelines.
