I just got one of one of these guns, (not too great condition) and it was making some bad noises in reverse. So I opened it up and took a look. There seems to be a single ball bearing floating around loose in the nose. Is that supposed to be there? Does anyone have access to an exploded diagram of one of these guns?

Thanks for posting that! It looks like "C' is where that ball bearing belongs....but it looks like there's supposed to be two, not one.

I bought one of these used a little while ago, when I switch directions I get a loud click or snap sound after the first trigger pull but after that it's smooth

I've had a couple of these, and I think that's normal.

I DID figure out where that stray ball bearing came from. As shown as "C" in the diagram, it goes inside hammer assembly "Z". If you push back hard on that hammer assembly, compressing spring "F", the two ball bearings can be removed/inserted. How this ball bearing escaped on its own is beyond me; it took a LOT of force to push this hammer back. I am guessing someone messed with this gun before me.

Now that the second ball bearing is back in its place, the gun runs smoothly in both directions. Not a particularly robust gun by today's standards, but usable.

Thank's again mrshaun!

PS. If you have one of these guns and the original batteries are fading, try batterypackrebuilders.com. For $39.99 they will make your battery better than new. I don't want to discourage you from buying a new battery from Snap-on, but a $139 battery is pretty hard to justify on a gun that's worth about $75.
