Hi all,

Im looking for a small impact gun, stuff for taking panels and guards and the like off machinery. So M8 fasteners at the largest.

Im looking at the snap on CT661, the lithium verstion of the CTU561, which i hear is a bag of ****.

So, can anyone confirm if the 661 is better than its predecessor? I'll be using it from M4 to M8, nothing big, but a decent battery run time is important.

Thanks
Rich

The snap on impact is a little weak, I have a 12 volt max Dewalt 3/8 impact, it is twice the gun as the 7.2 impact and the LED lights are real handy. Now mind you the Dewalt doesnt hold a candle to my Snap on 4410 power wis but it is light and fairly compact.
I have been using the Dewalt daily for at least 2 years.

I use my Bosch PS41-2A 12-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Impact Driver for that - absolutely LOVE this little thing. Drives circles around the snappy is fairly small and compact, does not weigh much at all and has kick *** battery life.

I also own a dewalt 12v version, but I don't like it as much - the bosch feels a bit more sturdy and able to take a pounding. The dewalt feels like it's going to vibrate apart.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yer ive got an 18v bosch for the proper stuff, just very big and bulky, dont like clambering into machines with it and when its only to undo 20 M8's its abit of an
Overkill, so i will look into the bosch option.

Thanks

the 12 inch is light, small - TONS smaller then the 18v...I personally wouldn't buy the 7v from snappy. My boss has one and I don't like using it, too slow, too wimpy, even for those little bolts. Works best under dash or in an area where you are just using it for screws.

Just my o2.

I just sold my 7.2V gun. Seriously doesn't worth $200+. Do yourself a favor and go to Home Depot and get the Milwaukee M12. Cheaper and much stronger.

Guess i'll go against the grain here, i just got a CT661 and im liking it so far. Its lighter than the 12V stuff but feels well built and this is the first "pocket driver" that i've owned with a real time power indicator which comes in handy. One of the problems i found quickly with the Makita is that the battery would start to die and the power drops off drastically. It still impacts fine and sounds good, it just stops removing stuff, hence where the indicator comes in (I think Milwaukee and Matco are the only other two that have it). Battery indicator is showing yellow after about a week (i dont use it constantly) but still putting out good power and the life seems comperable to the 12V Makita its replacing.

Realistically you're looking at ~50 lb/ft MAX with any model unless you dont mind it hammering for a while, but it handles most 10mm and some 12mm stuff which is fine by me and why i got it.

Biggest problem with it is the cost. Competitor models are darned near half what the CT661 MSRP is and some come with substantially better warranties too (Bosch -3 years/ Snap-On -1 year). If you can get it on promo or a deal for less than $200, then thats not too terrible.

Is the Milwaukee that we're talking about the C12-IW? If so, the 1/2 anvil would be abit of a decider, why would you want 1/2" on an impact this small?

Thanks

I notice your in the UK, I just bought a 10v Black and Decker 1/4 hex impact driver with 2 Li-ON batteries and a charger from B&Q for £60. I just use a 1/4 square drive adapter in it and its great for zipping out under-tray bolts and removing valve covers/sumps etc.

I,m impressed so far, I might go back and get the little drill :)
