My CT6855 is messed up. Sometimes I pull the trigger and nothing happens, then I fiddle with it, then it works. Sometimes I pull the trigger and it turns a little bit then dies.

Sometimes it's fine, sometimes its not.

Anyone have any suggestions, Snap-on wants $100 to repair, but not sure if it's worth sending in if it's something minor.

Thanks.

Do you have the CTB6185 lithium ion battery? Check with your dealer, I had to replace every one I sold with an updated version. The battery was faulty. There were two different model numbers I think the earlier one was the CTB6180

If it is a CTB6185 battery, the battery is the problem. The newer batteries are a CTB6187. I have replaced batteries as well.

OP: Ask your dealer to get you a new battery. I have gotten credit for every battery I had to replace.

Yes I have the CTB6185 battery. Will have to talk to those guys at customer service, as I bought it online.

Thanks so much for your help.

Chadster, I have a couple of questions for you. I sent my gun in for this issue and was returned today with "no fault found". My dealer was confused, as was I, as we immediately replicated the problem. I now see what happened.

1. Do you have a tech bulletin number or something I could refer my rep to?

2. Why don't Snap-on have customers send in batteries with cordless tool ROs, as it would seem that the cells could often be the problem?

Thanks

If you have the first lithium like chad said that will be your problem. Chargers either work or completely die. If it is a trigger it will only work on low or high all the time.

Do I need to replace the charger and battery or just the battery?

Sorry to bring this back up...

I have a CT6850 Impact with the ctb6185 battery and I have the exact same issue described in the first post. I bought the impact about a year ago on Craigslist. I read out the number of cycles on the battery and it has only been charged about 5 times...

I see that recently the snap on website has stopped selling the ctb6185 battery and instead they now sell the ctb6187 as a replacement for about twice the price, ~$220. Since they no longer sell the ctb6185, it seems like they know that it is a problematic part. Is it unreasonable to hope that they would offer some sort of trade in discount on a new battery pack even if I didn't buy the item new?

Thanks in advance for any feedback... :)

If you can get a hold of the original invoice it still might be under warranty. Try contacting the previous owner, if not contact snap-on support and see what they will do, let them know that the battery was faulty and should not be subject to regular warranty, as it is more of of a recall, IMO.
