Our shop is being serviced by a new Snap On dealer and he was kind enough to let me demo a CT7850 for a week before purchasing one.

I am very happy he did, it saved me $705.00. I fully charged the battery and put it to use pulling out the front differential on an 05 2500HD. Ran into problems after the 3rd lug nut on the first wheel. The 7850 would not take it off, I used my MG725 to finish up the wheel. I then moved on to pulling the 6 bolts out of the CV half shafts. It pulled the first two out but failed on the next 2 before I once again had to reach for the air. I was using a 6 inch extension with a swivel on the axle bolts but 450 ft lb should have no problem with such a small fastener even while considering the extension. The air took them out with no hesitation.

I was planning on buying the CT7850g kit and the body of an GT8810g but I just can't justify the cost of the 7850 if I'm going to be constantly reaching for the air anyway. I will probably still buy the 8810 to replace my 14.4 volt 3/8 impact but I'll be sticking with air for the 1/2 work. Hopefully I'll get a chance to test out the IR at some point.

For anyone in the market for a 1/2 inch electric impact and you are considering the Snap On, I urge you to try it out first before laying down the $$$.

Just sold my CT7850. It's overpriced and weak by today's standard. The only good thing about it is the LED light which is the brightest I've seen, but that's a feature I could live without. I also hated the delay when you press the trigger. Price it $200 less and it might be okay, but for the price they're asking, you're better off going elsewhere. The Ingersoll Rand W7150 and Milwaukee Fuel both offer more bang for the buck.

My boss has one. Its terrible. The time it takes hine to rsttle the lugs off one wheel I can just drag my air line over to the car and zap the lugs off with one of my 1/2 guns. Hell ied almost bet money my 3/8 MG325 has more nuts then that 1/2 cordless does.

I wouldn't put money on that. I like my MG325, but it doesn't come close to the power of the CT7850. I can remove lug nuts torqued to 120 ft-lbs easily. Maybe the one your boss has is defective?

I've had issues with mine as well. The LED quit working after a few months. And it has failed me a few times. Had to pull out the breaker bar. Looking into Milwaukee currently.

Mine pulls off forklift lug nuts every day without fail. Maybe yours was defective. I have a mg725 and have tightened lug nuts and taken them back off with the cordless.

Mine was sent back to snap on because the led. It doesn't have the power that the IR has for sure, it's down probably 50-100 break away

Could be. It dosent seem to hold a charge very long. IMO the MG325 is a pretty serious little gun, now mind you all my air tools are running 3/8 fittings not the normal 1/4 and the air compressor runs around 240-250 psi so that might make a difference. I rarely use a 1/2 gun. I use my 3/8 to pull lugs off just about everything but big trucks and vans. It almost always zips them off, now my test was to tighten them with the 1/2 snap on air gun and try to take them off with the 3/8. It almost always will.

I own the mg725 and mg325, i also own the ct8810 and ct7580. Keep in mind i work on light trucks and cars. I use the cordless tools as my mains, the air tools are back ups. I do see f350s and 3/4 tons probably once a day. I usually dont have trouble with the larger trucks but the cordless tools dont have the speed or the power the air tools do. I would never just have the coreless but not the air. Sometimes you need the extra speed to jolt something loose or power to brake something free.

With all that said no cordless is going to be up to par with air tools at this point. I havent used the IR bjt they make good products and so does snap on. My guns batteries last plenty lomg enough under heavy use and iv had the 1/2" for almost a year.

If you work on a majority big trucks the ct7850 might not be the right gun for you. Its stronger than the mg325 i know that as a fact but its just not all day big truck material. If it struggles it eats battery juice faster and i personally just dont think it good enough for people working on the 350s or 3/4 tons. It would work as a back up for parkimg lot work if you needed it though.

I think mine is a 6850, the newest ni cad. It is my main work horse in the shop working on skidsteers. Generally if it can't pull a bolt off, the 725 can't either and the 3/4" gun comes out.

I have both the 1/2" CT7850 and the 3/8 CT 8810 lithium impacts. The 3/8" gun surprised me and exceeded my expectations in power, comfort and runtime. I use it constantly.
The 1/2" gun I found a little disappointing. Run time is so so and I use the same four batteries in both impacts and flashlight so it's not the batteries. The breakaway torque was a little disappointing. I regularly find things it won't break loose and if you add an extension or a swivel socket you can forget it as this really neuters it down. It's strong but not strong enough to replace my air impact. Although comfort, weight and the addition of the electric anvil brake are much improved over the previous models (had those too). It's performance is not on par with its price.

I use it for tire rotations, road and parking lot work and anywhere air is inconvenient. I like having a cordless 1/2" around but it plays second fiddle to my IR 2135timax and MG 725 guns.
