Not looking for a ******* match on what's better or should have bought this instead. So with that out of the way here is my issue.

I have had my 18v lithium CT8850 for over a year now so no warranty left. What seems to be the problem is once the trigger is released the gun keeps spinning until it stops naturally. Once and a while it works normally that when the trigger is released the gun just stops. I am assuming these guns have some form of electric brake in them?

Has anybody else run into this issue? Just looking for input as to what may be the cause.

Send Snap On an email. Unlike some websites, they do know what they're talking about. I'm no expert, but most impacts have some type of clutch mechanism that eventually wear out.
I found this statement on Wikipedia. Not sure if it relates to cordless impacts, but must be similar problem - Another common design uses a hammer fixed directly onto the input shaft, with a pair of pins acting as clutches. When the hammer rotates past the anvil, a ball ramp pushes the pins outwards against a spring, extending them to where they will hit the anvil and deliver the impact, then release and spring back into the hammer, usually by having the balls "fall off" the other side of the ramp at the instant the hammer hits. Since the ramp need only have one peak around the shaft, and the engagement of the hammer with the anvil is not based on a number of teeth between them, this design allows the hammer to accelerate for a full revolution before contacting the anvil, giving it more time to accelerate and delivering a stronger impact. The disadvantages are that the sliding pins must handle very high impacts, and often cause the early failure of tool.

As others have said there's an electric brake to stop the anvil. Ask you're dealer and he can give you a price to send it in to be fixed.

It's in the trigger, that's where the electronics are that control that. You could buy one and replace it yourself. They run around 60 bucks for the older stuff that I play with, aka CT6850/ Ct4410

Why I thought this was a 8850 I don't know but it's actually a 7850. Sent it out today for rebuild so I'll see what they find when it returns.

7850 is the same way, electronics in trigger control the brake.
