Hey guys has any one else had problems with their CTS561? I was removing some screws in a Mercedes splash pan and the driver stopped engaging. It's been making odd noises lately and I've had the Snap on dealer look at it a few times due to charging issues. He bent the tabs back for me to make a better connection,it's definitely out of warranty but I dont use it often, only to take splash pan bolts out. The gun now sounds like its spinning but won't engage. Any ideas?

You could take it apart and to try figure out what is wrong; buy parts here:

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/parts/pro_det.asp?Item_id=76628&group_id=22085

or ship it out for repair from Snap-On; they have a flat fee and fix anything thats wrong... typically 1/3 cost of a new one. I'm sure someone here or one of the dealers on this board; can tell you how much that is... good luck!

Thanks man, thats a nice break down, I started to take it apart but had to move onto another project and I didnt have time to hunt down a long skinny small tox bit to remove one of the bolts, the rest are out!

Im guessing its the gear box and the check wont engage, it sounds like a gear is stripped and is just spining freely. Much like a blown trans!

Have you ever twisted a tight bolt loose with it manually? It's probably time for a new one. I'm on my second one. It's one of my favorite tools. I wish I would have known the flat rate repair deal applied to it before.:wtf:

my bosch has never complained when i've used it as a wrench, even the 2 craftsman 4.8v pistol screwdrivers i've been through have never given me issue other than batteries finally failing to hold a decent charge after a couple years of daily use.

the latter is an incredible bargain for the do-it-yourselfer and/or anyone who doesnt need loads of torque, especially when they go on sale for $15-$20.

I'd hope that Snap-On would be able to make something comparable for $140.

mr holeshot I think your cat is messing with your thoughts of snap on.

I dont have a lot of SO electric tools, but I can see his point. My drill that is disgusted here, works great, but my flash lights ****. My SO guy would just pry the contact over and it worked for a day or so and go back to doing what it was, he'd pry it again and that is it. I couldnt get em exchanged for the life of me.

I am not impressed with SO electrical parts. I could see if it was 1 flashlight, but its 2 of the same model. Or maybe its just my SO guy that *****. :lol_hitti:

Some of Snap On's early electric and cordless power tools in the 1980s were made by Black and Decker until Dewalt changed that. There was a huge disagreement and Dewalt would not buld anything up to Snap On's specs.

1 year warranty on new units.

thank you sir, my dealer took care of it, even though it was purchased on
8/11/09... I had asked him a few mounths ago and he told me it was out of warranty, my information was incorreclty transfered to him, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I found the recipt yesterday and hes going to take care of it, becuase when I asked for warranty 3 mounths ago it was still actully under warranty.

Ive owned 3 of them plus the 1/4 impact which i still have its cheaper to just buy a new used one gun only from ebay the don't demand alot of money being so old. They are great little guns to have when they work I pawned mine off for more than I paid for them 3 guns and 8 batteries with 2 chargers. If it's something small parts are cheap I had both the ones with clutch and one without I now have the 14.4 version it's night and day better and just a hair bigger I'd go that route.

Bad battery just use another higher volt battery and run wires from it and zap it a few times and it will come back to life I had to do this to mine and other nicad tools I've had very easy.
