Snap on Cutoff Tool Question

I recently picked up a PT250 cutoff tool for $5. Unfortunately, the jacket is cracked and the lever assembly is missing. I tried finding these parts on Snap ons website, but can only find the PTC250.

Can anybody tell me if these parts interchange? And if so, do they offer other jacket colors then black and red?

Thanks.

My brother replaced the grip on his, at the time he was told it would no longer be available and that was probably a year ago.

Please let us know if the new part number is acceptable, they are a great tool.

Yeah, I may have to just buy one and try.

If the newer PTC250 jacket will work, that tool comes in black/green and in black/vi viz combinations, but when looking at the part diagrams for those two versions Snap-on doesn't show the different colored jackets being available as replacement parts, so you will likely be stuck with the black/red combo.

I tend to agree that the jacket for the PTC250 should work. I would take the risk if it were me. It appears that the PT200, PT200A, PT250 and PTC250 tools all share the same housing underneath the jacket (the replacement housing part number looks to be PT200-1 for all of them). It appears the part numbers that are PTC250 specific mainly relate to the visually redesigned plastic sleeve cover (made out of a new material so it's less likely to crack over time) and the shield and collet mechanism, which is where the product literature indicates that improvements were made over the older PT250 unit.

According to literature I can find online, the PT200 unit uses the same original plastic outer jacket as the PT250 unit. The part number for a replacement PT200 plastic jacket is PT200A200. I'm assuming the jacket will be red in color, because red was the standard color, but Snap-on did sell those tools in orange, in green, and possibly other colors. The Snap-on site shows that jacket as being on backorder right now, but I don't know if it will ever be in stock again or not.

The safety lever assemblies visually appear the same as well, but I can't find all the individual part numbers to verify that online. It appears they could be functionally equal even it they have different part numbers, because it looks like when Snap-on switched from the solid color plastic sleeves to their newer style two color plastic sleeves they started laser etching the tool model number onto the steel lever handle instead of it being melted into the side of the plastic jacket like the older models. As a result, any difference in lever handle part numbers might only be to ensure you get a lever with either no laser etched handle markings or the correct tool model number etched into it.

Wow, thank you for this!

If it doesn't work, you can send it in to Snap-On and they will flat rate it for a total rebuild, and in effect, you will have a brand new one.

For what it's worth, I just had a PT250 repaired for $122. They replaced the entire head and the trigger, got back a bigger/beefier collet, but not the "Jacket" that is basically the handle around the tool.

It's in the truck now and I'm lazy, but this is a cut-off tool with a plastic surround formed to the body. Is that what we're calling the "jacket"? I'm curious more than anything because it's not a boot you slip over this thing but seemed more like part of the tool you're talking about. Also, if my $122 price was a flat repair I should have messed that thing up some more!

I just don't see how that can be replaced. Damn, I should have the repair ticket too...I'll see the guy on Thursday (or I ripped it off and it's on my desk). I am really curious if cosmetic is part of the flat-rate repair now.

I'll post pictures of what I think I have and I bet it's not that...but same jacket curiosity either way! It's 100yds up and back, posting a pic, online...give me a day or a stick of dynamite to boost me ;)

Oops, I'm very wrong. Not the PT250 but the PT210...this freak of nature:
Ticket says it got an entirely new head, new drive and collet, new vanes, and bore was verified within their repair spec. I'm fine with basically a new airtool for $122 that's been beat to hell.

But that plastic "jacket" that's part of the tool can be replaced? Nice to know! Been eyeballing an actual PT250 since I've been reviving some older SO/BP airtools. Anyway, I like to point out when I'm incorrect on tools.
