Snap on dealer troubles

The Snap-on dealer that comes around to my farm shop in Indiana balked at replacing broken tools that were not abused. He wanted me to buy expensive testing equipment and things. He would say if you buy this I can get this replaced. I told him where to go. I see him at the local coffee shop and he would stop buy if he saw my truck there. I seldom bought anything. If I needed a rare tool yes but nothing more. I put the tools in the truck and when I was in Indy I saw a different owner and got them replaced on the spot. There have been a lot of complaints the past 5 or so years about Snap-on backing their tools. Bad stories are very common and it is very sad.

Your dealer is broke...if he owes on his tool bill Snap on will not let him order anything else...that is the new thing they started doing about a year or so ago. My dealer finally just sold his route to another dealer who paid his tool bills...

This right here. Had a dealer same problem your having and yep out of business he went. New guys truck is stocked to the max. If I need to order something it's usually a week.

I got screwed by my last dealer when he went out of business. I luckily have a good one now. You gotta just find a good one and try to stick with them.

I have been more than happy with my snap-on dealer. SHE is a 2nd generation franchisee. Her father has had his franchise for over 20 years, and both her husband and brother in law are also franchisees. Truck is well stocked at all times, orders take a week or less, and they are always up to speed on new tools, deals, and technology.

If your route is filled with schmucks that don't pay then your new guy will end up in the same boat as the old one.

I thought someone here said their SO guy doesn't even allow truck credit. If true then he's probably the smartest truck owner around.

This guys had his rout for 25 years. I doubt he's going anywhere. As far as not giving out an RA account (credit) I can't see how he will stay in business.

Double edge sword. Some guys pay in full, some may take a couple of weeks or more to pay, and then you have the type like one technician we had, $10 a week.

Haven't seen mine roll up on site in over a year. I've called twice and asked him to order something for me. He still doesn't show up. I gave up, and now I order online. Faster service & quicker warranty.

Except for one time when I financed something on the truck, at $50 a week, just so collecting payment would force him to show up, I've been a cash buyer. I've never gotten a discount. One time I got a free pair of socks.

If he ever does show back up, I'm not wasting my time with him unless he'll make a deal for a cash buyer. It's so easy to have something in one or two days online, whether it's amazon, or snapon.com, I'm just not willing to wait longer for service and AND pay for the *privilege*.

This statement is a little off, the dealers financials are a DIRECT result of his ability to recoup from his customers, no payments = no dealer longevity.

I understand you're statement. My concern is how much the dealer is allowing some jackass to rack up in debt to him. Of course this is a individual judgement call.

I was talking to a friend out west yesterday about his dealer and truck credit. Tells me his dealer does it, but doesn't do it on just a handshake. Handshakes and your word don't count in a court of law, only what's on paper. Says his dealer makes you sign some sort of payment agreement with other legal mumbo jumbo.

I'm happy I'm not a tool truck dealer. The economic pressures of that business model has got to be tough these days. I don't have a regular dealer. I'm never in one spot long enough to have one. I work directly from home traveling throughout about five states. Not home 90% of the time. Always pay full cash for my tools, not home enough for a dealer to collect on. Lol

His truck is never really full of tools to stock. And there has been a few times he said you forgot. But I ordered a 24oz deadblow hammer and got it 1 month later. What snap on dealer doesn't have a deadblow on the truck. I did start buying Mac tools. I'll have to start looking online for snap on tools.

Sounds like that driver is having cashflow problems. I had a lot of problems with my driver. I sold most of my Snappy and moved on to other brands.

Anyone who believes that the "handshake" deal is the quintessence of the perfected business relationship is a fool. I've never understood why anyone wants to do business that way.
