Hello folks, new member here. I was hoping a Snap-on junkie might be able to explain what the difference is between two torque wrenches, the ATECH3FR250A and the ATECH3FR250B. Both are 1/2" drives, both are 12.5-250 lbs, and from reviewing the specs I can't figure out how they differ. Thanks if you can help.

I just compared the tech angle model A you reference in my Snap-on catalog vs the 250b you referenced on SnapOn's web site.

The only diference I can see is the handle style. Other than that the specs appear to be the same.

I actually think I would prefer the A model if I were to buy one (and I probably should now that I'm thinking of it).

The color is different. I believe the rubber on the handle is a little different. The gray one has a plastic cap to hold the batteries, which can sometimes get knocked off, causing the batteries to call out. The red one has a brass screw piece where it goes into the body of the handle. It is supposed to be a more durable cap. There may be some differences with the light and vibration sequence or settings options.

Some of the menu functions might be a in a different place.

The lights let you know when you are getting close, then when you reach the setting, a different light color and vibration is outputed. The vibration is nice when you can't see the screen.

I have had the 250a for 6-7 years with no incidents. I believe the B was a revision to A since it had issues with power on/off, which mine has not exhibited yet. It's a nice torque wrench and used it when I put performance heads on a 2006 Charger I had and other head jobs I've done.

Here is a fix and believe there was an old thread here of a member who fixed theirs also.

The b model has the dual 80 ratchet head. Handle is completly redesigned. The b model has a memory function and has an led light function along with the vibration. The b is an overall better torque wrench. But the a models can be picked up fairly cheap used.

I would be real leery of a used A model. There were a significant number of them that had power issues when torque was applied. That is why the handle was redesigned. Not all of them had the problem.

Mine never had it. Alot of the issues were people pulling on the battery cap.
