I was just wondering if anyone knew why they discontinued the ratchets with the hard handles?

I bought one off eBay new, to put in my tool box in my truck. Seemed like a good little ratchet to have for that. Just curious why they got rid of them?

Did a search and couldn't find anything.

Here's a pic:

They still make the screwdrivers? My SO said they didn't. I won't buy the Instinct sets. I hate the way they feel in my hand.

The hard handle ratchets disappeared from the catalogue a few years back when they were replaced by the comfort grip ratchets. It was about the time the Instinct screwdrivers replaced the hard handle drivers.

Why? Well I'm sure Snap On would give you all sorts of reasons about 'Improvements' and users wanting the soft handles, but my guess is that the soft handles are considerably cheaper than the hard. I'm not sure what the material used on the hard handles is, but the colours suggest a DuPont product to me, perhaps Zytel, and that isn't the cheapest!

I think Snap On, like most sensible users, now realise they cocked up and offer the hard handle ratchets from time to time, much as they do the screwdrivers. They don't appear in the catalogue, and I haven't seen them on the website either, but they do turn up a couple of times a year on the vans. There isn't much choice when they do, maybe one size and style of ratchet, and not much choice of colour, but they do turn up.

Best thing is to tell your dealer you want one and make sure he gets some when they come up!

They still release them to us. But it's limited and the colors are usually green, red and orange. Screwdrivers are included in that too.

They didn't. THLD72O on Snap-on website (other colors available with different suffixes). The new website's search function is pitiful, so finding what you're looking for can sometimes be a chore.

The search is pitiful...but what is very cool & nice is if you start typing THLD in the search box for example, it returns all results right away (DONT CLICK SEARCH)....so as you can see in the attached pic, it makes looking for a green or other color version very easy..As you can see here, there is a green, orange, red and P which I assume is the Pearl Pink which is this years color..

True, the autocomplete feature can be handy, but if you type the exact part number into the search bar, it returns no results which means it is an ineffective "search" function!

No. P is pink, PP is pink pearl and may not be available on all the "regular" tools.

The hard handle ratchets are usually a seasonal thing. My dealer had a couple on the truck around Christmas time that he had at his house left over from the previous Christmas seasons sales flyer.

But yes they still do make them....but only on occasion
