snap-on discounts??????

hello all,
are there any known snap-on discounts? I'm really dissaponted with the quality of my craftsman tools, and would like to replace them with snap-on ones. i have a gut feeling that snap-on overcharges for their tools to keep their financing part of the business afloat. i have used many different brands of tools, so in my personal experience is that I am happy with snap-on ones. I have more craftsman tools, simply because of the value. over the years I have purchased craftsman tools simply because the value and quality where good. now for some reason craftsman tools have the same value only much less quality. snap-on on the other hand has good quality but the value is still too high. btw, this is just my opinion I have been using tools and working on cars for ~20 years now. so I'm sure that someone will mention that I'm too cheap, I just work hard for my money and hate to spend more than I should.

Various online tool sellers/businesses sometimes get mentioned on this forum,some of the brand name tools are probably pretty good,first rate and not as expensive as a truck. There is a classified section that you can see by dropping down to the bottom of this page to the "Forum Jump" and using the little drop down arrow. I think most of the classified sellers want Paypal which I don't have because I used to get constant e-mails from imposters claiming to be Paypal trying to get my credit card #.
If you are familiar with a Snapon truck man he might give you a discount but it probably would not be huge. I understand that Snapon has a substantial student discount for people in tech training.
If you try the Search function on this page and it doesn't work sometimes it seems to work if you type " " marks around the word or subject that you want to search.

Like Wakefield said, you can buy used off this forum or e-bay or buy from one of our GJ Snap-On reps. You can contact your local Snap-On dealer and buy from him. The dealers have sales frequently and sometimes give discounts to good customers. Our Snap-On dealer takes good care of us, but we have been a customer for over 12 years. Don't get so hung up on pricing. If we need a tool quickly, we call and have it at our door within two days, usually one day.

The last time I read the fine print, you didn't acquire Snap-On SEP eligibility by just taking one class or even a handful of automotive classes while working towards a typical degree. They have a nice reminder, that they can charge you the difference between the discount and list price, if they find you in violation upon running an audit. Granted... I'm not sure how likely that is to occur.

I am always amazed to see Craftsman and Snap on in the same sentence. I don’t see that Craftsman hard line of tools quality has changed much recently. To me the Craftsman tools to get have always been the items like the Knipex pliers they brand Craftsman. I have wondered if the high price of Snap-on adds to the interest in their tools. In looking for tool value there are lots of brands between Craftsman and Snap-on. I have a lot of dual 80’s but prefer my Stahlwille ratchets unless heavy duty is required.

Like I said earlier I have tried many brands of tools, however the majority of my tools are craftsman (for now anyways).my personal preference is Snap-On tools, that is as long as I can afford them. Recently I have had a few craftsman tools break on me only to get replaced by sub quality ones at my local sears. As soon as I use them they break again, and this was not because of some average misuse. So I decided to update my tool inventory.

Snap-on is currently offering deals that are incredible. I cant remember the last time I sold a hard line tool (ratchet, socket, wrench, etc) at full list price off the truck. They sometimes offer discounts on snapon.com, but usually its just new product announcements. I would advise you to find your local dealer and get to know him/her. As most of the other members have told you, the more you buy, the better your service/prices. Also, most Snap-on dealers are happy to get other brand tools out of your hands and will take trades. On a side note, Snap-on credit is run as a separate entity from Snap-on tools.

Most will at the least, knock off sales tax. After they get to know you for a while, you can often get some nice deals.

if it isnt i go with who gives the most discounts..

when i was going to college tech school i bought almost 6 grand worth of tools retail would of been almost 15k! including my Box and cart from snap on....

But one word of advice BUY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD! dont spend money u dont have

FYI I don't necessarily hate Snap-on, I get a little cranky when I see the corporate goon squads hit the internet, happy to hear this wasn't the case.

Chad, did they warn any of you dealers not to have the lists disclosed publicly? My dealer is brand new, the convention was one of the first things he has done with snap on, even before really getting on the route. Think he has been on the route about 2 or 3 weeks now.

As such, he doesn't have everything in place yet, and doesn't tell me about any of the specials (even for the week) unless I ask.

As a matter of fact, his first week on the route he mentioned just getting back from florida. I asked if that means he participates in the $99.95 specials. He was alarmed, almost a little defensive and asked how did I know?

That said, and the fact he claims he can only sell 5 at that price, I would like to know ahead of time, if at all possible?

I used to get 51% off from Snap On ( yes 51 % ) from 2 differant sources, first was a trade school I was going to. 2nd was working for GM at an assembly plant. I used the discount on a couple of speciality tools ... but not nearly as much as I should have.

That is true and has been true of all of the $99.95 specials. Dealers only get 5 of each item on promo at the $99.95 price.
