Tool shopping for my son/s tech class. Calls for 3/8 drive, 8mm-24mm shallow and deep. Wanting to splurge and get him Snap On since they serviced me well for over 30 years.
Looking at the online catalog, there are no 23mm & 24mm 3/8" drive deep wells in 6 pt or 12 pt. ? Or am I missing something?

If it's for school, check if they have a student discount program. Should be able to save 50-60%

Really sad, requiring pretty much useless sockets, that even if you had a use for, should be 1/2" drive. I wonder who wrote that list, a tool company?

IF you can get them to respond, Snap-On has a decent program. Our tech school was handled by "industrial" side of Snap-On and they only wanted the big initial order that the school placed. Students were an annoyance. I called corporate and was told that yes that was likely the case, and they would pass this along to the region. Still took me 4 months to get a login to place the order and then the rep had to "approve" my order. Never did get the approval, even though everything was in order. That was 10-11 months ago. As I was a non-traditional student (over 60 years old) and had most of what I needed, it was not an issue. There are limits, but if you can afford it, there is no better time to buy than as a student.

Our rep was not a big "metric" tool person, sadly - he let Everyone know "that the 'Merica would be better off with out those things, anyway."

There are other tool programs for students. Local Sears gave one classmate, 30% off his top, bottom box and tool set, just fro showing his student ID.

Snap-On is really missing the boat on not getting their reps to follow through on their student program. I think our rep was out 3 times in 14 months, and once was to add a lock to a tool box, one of our auto-tech students took a die grinder to cut the hole for the lock, and the drawers were never straight and level, when the rep got through. $$$$Box was awful looking.

We had 20 verus scanners in 5 boxes, and 20 torque certification setups in 5 boxes...so there was sufficient commissions for someone to take an interest.

Corp listened to my comments, but nothing has changed.

I believe snap on on does not make deep in those sizes

But for 24mm a 15/16 can be used as well which I believe is in deep as well I would not worry about 23mm most people skip 20 and 23 for sockets

The list is just to cover everything that might be needed.

Personally I would not spend the money on those couple bigger sockets right off the bat. I would recommend used off ebay or elsewhere too.

In my program we had the list like that. I doubt anyone will check the students' tool boxes. We had guys come in with cheap basic tools from Harbor Freight, some had their dad's old craftsman, I had my pieced together set.

It got stupid because we had to haul our tools to every shop lab class, yet you only need what you need that day. I bet 99% of the guys did not have an inspection mirror or brass punch on hand. DVOM's always being borrowed too.

That's pretty sad... There's quite a few community colleges here that have great auto repair programs all backed by big name tool brands and all the reps show up weekly

They used to make them. I have some. I see they are not listed on the web sight. I'd call them and ask the web sight *****. I know that Williams USA sockets come in those sizes and they are snap on clones

I have 3/8 impact deep and shallow 23&24. The snap on impact 3/8 set is 8-24, missing 20,22,23. Not commonly used. My 24 gets used quite a bit. 20 for gm fuel filters, 23 was a f150 front end, Probly 15/16. 22 is 7/8, common for lug nuts, specialty tools like ball joint press.

Cornwell does make deep and shallow up to 26mm in 3/8 chrome but you will never use above 24mm in 3/8 27mm and 1 1/16 used for oil pressure switch if you don't have socket usually that is 3/8

I'll post when I'm at work in the morning but there's definitely a snap on 22 and 24 shallow and deep 3/8 impact in my box.

I use my 3/8 24 all the time?

What do you use it for? I'm a self employed tech, don't think I even own a 1/2" drive 24 MM, let alone a 3/8" drive. Seems I use 21 and 22, then maybe 25 and 27, all in 1/2 " drive. Although Range Rover lug nuts are one of those bizarre sizes, couldn't find a socket anywhere, ended up making a sheet metal shim. Don't want to work on anymore of those things anyway.

I use 3/8" 24mm deep and shallow impacts on farm equipment, specifically self propelled forage harvesters, frequently.

The knives on my 980, for instance, are held in place with M16 bolts torqued to 210 ft-lbs.

I use 3/8" drive impacts as often as possible as they are easier to handle and fit in to smaller spaces.

For what it's worth I'm a 20 year mechanic, last 5 years at a medium duty fleet. I don't recall ever using a 23mm.

24mm, sure, all the time. And yes snap on certainly makes them in 3/8" drive deep and shallow.

Well you can imagine my amusement when I looked in my socket drawer today to find I have 23 and 24MM deep impact sockets, 3/8" drive, made by Mac. Bought them for next to nothing many years ago at the used tool store that used to be in Pawtucket, RI. Pretty sure I've never used either one............
