I'm curious what they look like? Do anyone have a picture? I really like the strength built into the the matco 88th and how a million teeth engage at once. Is the dual80 the same way?

The dual pawl, when i was playing around with matco more teeth actually engage than in the snapon promo video. Which is why i think people say its not as smooth as the dual 80. I also like the directional selector setup better, very hard to get it to bump directions. Sometimes I have to spin the socket back alittle bit to switch directions. Then again its just my opinion.

Are you worried about strength? If so you'd have to being to trying to break one for that to happen. I have only broken one 3/8 drive and that was when they first came out and my dealer said I wouldn't be able to break it. I had to put a 3 foot cheater bar on it and the gear didn't even break, the anvil sheared off.

not really, i would image both probably break at around the same lbs. Was more just curious about the design and why people were saying the snapon is smoother. As far as cheater bar, when you weight 280 you can break a ratchet without a cheater bar.

i think its a personal opinion saying which is stronger. They are both rated at 250. The snap on promo video i saw didn't put the competitors ratchets in the load test machine.

Its funny they say the matco ratchet may be thin, but when you put a matco socket on it its to thick. So put a different socket on it, even *gasp* a snapon socket if you need it then.

The one thing I realized about the new 80's is that if you ever strip out a screw hole, the ratchet is toast. The previous models had the cover plate tapped.

If you break one you should be using the proper tool (1/2" drive or larger) for what you are doing.

i never said i didn't touch one. I felt one from a tool truck when they first came out. Did not actually use it on a bolt. Had not used a 60tooth matco either at the time. I just never opened one up and I honestly can't remember how it felt. I just notice alot of people have been saying it was smoother that matco 88th. If you want to send me one for a comparison i would gladly give it a try again.

don't knock it til you try it. look at all the posts that these guys put saying their dual 80 is smoother than the matco 88.
I have sold a ton of these and not one complaint or a return.
I have fixed a couple of the tl72 ratchets but no 3/8 or 1/2.
Did have a couple of guys break the flf80 at the pivot point and a couple of 1/2 pulled the screws out of the plate ( they were used on tanks )

ok?!?!?!

Truthfully I could care less which ratchet you go with or stay with. Everyone has their own taste. I can appreciate that.

IIRC the two silver paws have a pin on the back side. The selector lever has a channel in it. The pin slides into the channel as the selector is switched and the paw that is not needed is pulled out of the way. I think this is how it works. I hope I did not confuse you.

That is a total bs answer. 1/2 doesn't always fit where you need it.

You can get the 80 tooth 1/2 into plenty of places, its really not that much bigger than the 3/8. If access is that restricted I doubt you could get enough torque to break it.
