Snap on dual 80 issues?

I had both my 1/2 drive and 3/8 drive dual 80s repaired once, due to a skipped tooth. As soon as it skipped once, I was on the phone, making sure the dealer would have a rebuild kit for their next visit.


Personally, I now lube all my ratchets with synthetic wheel bearing grease. Somewhat liberally I might add. Don't forget, the depression in the ratchet chassis where the gears actually sit can wear too.

Never had a problem with any of mine ever. Been using Snappy 80 teeth for years now. Same with Matco 88's. I do find it quite ironic that so many here "lube" their ratchets though. Mine go from the truck to my box to the work for years with no lube. Sometimes they get second hand lube from engine oil/gear oil/atf but it's not on purpose. Never had an issue. I wonder if all these rats are overlubed and are breaking from it.
