Couple of tips. The Snap-on Franchisee conference is in 2 weeks. Try to nail down your options before then and see what kind of price he can get you from the show. The order book has been released so he should know whats available and at what kind of pricing he can get. The best deals of the year are usually found on product ordered at the annual SFC.

If you don't get an SFC box, tell your dealer you want to see the Rock N Roll toolbox truck. The RnR guy can usually get boxes a little less expensive than the dealer can on his own. You also want to make sure you take advantage of the rebates offered by Snap-on Credit. Even if you plan on paying cash for the deal, sign the contract, take advantage of the rebates and then pay it off in full the next week.

Thanks for these tips.

My SO guy said he thought they were doing away with the Cranberry, which of course is the color I want to buy when I eventually have the means. Knowing my luck they'll do away with the that color option right before I have the funds to buy. :Violent:

Sweet!! Talk about good timing. Hope the SFC route is worthwhile. I need to get over to the SO site and spec out exactly what I'm looking for. My snappy guy comes on Thurs so I have a few days to get my act together.

As for the rock & roll wagon, BTDT last fall. The numbers he came up with, which included the finance rebate as well as some other discount, were out in left field. It could have been due to my SO dealer bcuz they worked together coming up with their offer. I'm not really sure though. I'll dig out the papers tomorrow at work...they're in my box...and refresh my memory as to the exact numbers.

I do remember my snappy guy trying to beat me up over what I wanted for my KRL1003 towards the trade. And I told him my price is just as justified as yours for what your selling. I wanted 5K and that included the SO cover, stainless drawer edge guards, upgraded SO drawer liners, a solid oak top...I made it, and it's in 99% mint condition. The 1% I discount for the light scuff marks on the stainless drawer guards. Bet they'd polish out if I tried. Basically he could turn this box over to someone and not lift have to lift a finger on it for clean up. Box is about 20 yrs old. Bought it in 94 or 95.

What also soured me was he wanted to nickle dime me over a few extras. I wanted a second handle...one on each end, upgraded drawer liners instead of the garbage they come with, a second SO emblem for the front...I did this with my KRL, and different wheels. At the time I didn't know about the drawer layout option and if I did, wouldn't be surprised if he'd upcharge for that too.

Not only can you move the stock drawers layout around in a box once you buy it, you can order any drawer count or arrangement you like - as long as it fits the box structure. Say the drawer bank area is 20" tall - stock layout is 1 - 6" 1-4" and 5 -2's you can ask for 5 - 4" deep drawers or 10 - 2" deep ones or whatever you can dream up. I swapped the 8" deep small bank drawer that comes stock for a 4" and 2 - 2" ones since I also got a side locker to store bulky stuff.
There is no extra charge for this or difference in the cost of the box, but you will most likely have a longer wait to get the box. I found the only problem was they throw the stock set of liners in the box a the factory, so I was short 2 pieces which the SO man had to give me off his truck stock.

Besides all that, the drawer bank widths are different between KRL's and Epiq's. It differs between banks, but they are all a little wider in Epiq's, if I am not mistaken. So, same drawer count is still a bigger box in an Epiq.

Cool...like I said that option changed everything for me. I need to come up with the layout that suits me. I'll be headed over to the SO site shortly to figure out what I can come up with.

Thanks for the info!

You can lay out screwdrivers, pliers, etc in them, I think the issue I had was with a tray that I couldn't lay flat in one of them (and close it without scraping the drawer above), so I had to lose the tray. Not really a big deal to me but some people like trays.

Except for the guy that has the caster issue, I'd venture a guess that everyone else on the board with an Epiq is happy with their choice. I know I am.

I only have 2 trays so it appears to be a non issue for me then. But since it was brought up, I'll be sure to pay attention to how many shallow drawers I get.

Thanks again for all the pluses. It does appear that the caster issue was a limited complaint, which is exactly the type of info I wanted to find out about. Having been a SO customer for over 3 decades, I've seen good and bad products from them. They want serious coin for their products, so I wanted to hear any feedback about the Epiq and it's everyday use before I dropped a dime.

I bought a 68" about 2 years ago. Best move I could have made. I had it next to my classic 78 for a little while and it was night and day. The epiq IS a tank. I've moved it around full a few times and it's not that bad, it rolls smoothly and haven't encountered the wheel wobble, or pop whatever their calling it. As mentioned some of the drawers aren't as deep as I'd like to see, but still useable. Plier or wrench racks will not fit in them. The packaging that so screw drivers come in barely fit with a little rubbing.

Opening and closing an epiq is an awesome feeling. The drawers make a distinct thud when you close them that's like no other. By far the best box I've ever had the pleasure of working out of. I got the stainless top with the outlets on both sides.

Thanks for the feedback:thumbup:

Not what I wanted to hear. I've been leaning towards the Cranberry with black trim lately

once again, my ignorance is showing:headscrat

how or should I say where do I find out what is clear coat, powder coat and whatever else they offer?

Or are you saying the clear coat is an option added on to a powder coat finish? Not that I've ever heard of putting clear over a powder coat.

I'm at the SO site now and can't find it

There's a couple of recently added clear coat finishes. They're separate colors, not a treatment to existing colors. AFAIK they aren't on the website as they're a special order item.

OK, so I've got a couple questions to dispel any personal understandings on how this works (up until now i've only bought new and in stock boxes at smokin prices)....but I've been toying with the idea of getting a customized KRSC100, in speaking with my driver he said I should wait till after SFC to see if there is anything close to what I'm looking for...and if not, I should wait till the Rock n Roll Truck to come to town again this fall...because in his own words, he gets upcharged for all/most customizations on a box, The Rock N Roll truck has the power to waive any & all customization charges IF they want....

So I guess I was under the assumption, custom colors/trims/drawer configs cost something...I know for some people its burried into the overall cost of the box and you never see it.

That's true, it's custom drawer configurations are totally free from Rock n roll, plus the ability to do any paint and trim combo imaginable.

Wow! I bought mine through the rock n roll truck deal and the numbers where good - right where I wanted to see 'em to be fair for all of us. I actually question my regular SO man about him getting "his piece" of the sale, since the first price quoted seemed lower than I expected. He said not to worry, he gets his, even at a good selling price.

I was mistaken as far as the time frame for the deal offered last year. I thought it was Sep or Oct, but the paper work is dated August.

Here's the specifics:

$14350.00 KERN843B1POV 84" RC CRANBERRY W/TITNM TRM
-$4000.00 Preferred Customer Discount
-$1000.00 EC Rebate
-$3800.00 Trade
$352.43 Tax

$5902.43 Total

$339.55 KAC304884BK 84" EPIQ RC CVR BLK
$20.95 KN983 SNAP ON LOGO EPIQ
$94.50 763J50PA HANDLE EPIQ
$843.00 Drawer Liner Set
$82.43 Tax

$1380.43 Total

So for a grand total of $7282.86 and my KRL1003...which included the SO cover, drawer liners and emblem AND the oak top-
no thanks...I'll pass, which I did! I don't remember what I paid for the upgraded SO liners I currently have, but no way in he!! did I pay $843 !!

I'm anxious to see what my old dealer can put together, now that he's back. He sounded motivated to make this deal happen. Thur can't get here quick enough:bounce:
