Snap On Epiq resale value

So, looking at Epiq 68 and 84 inch cabinets on E-Bay, they seem to be from 6-8 thousand dollars. Are these prices reasonable? What does the box cost new? I.e. Is it worth spending the money because it will hold its value over time?

The Epiqs have a high resale value since there aren't a lot of them on the resale market. They are a recent line for SO and so most of the boxes sold off the truck are still in active use.

The KRL series has been on the market since what, the mid 90s? So you have a lot more being sold not only by retiring techs, but also by techs who upgraded to an Epiq off the truck.

I would expect the Epiqs to continue getting a bit cheaper over time, and eventually settle in the 4-5k range for the big boxes, but it'll take a number of years for that to happen.

That's what they sell for. I paid less than that for a new one off the truck with a powertop. But it seems to really vary with dealer pricing

I would look at your local Craigslist using a multi search site, see how many are around and asking prices. If the ads been on their long then that isn't a good price. Many of the sites that search Craigslist will bring up 1-2 month old ads that have been ended which can give a reasonable idea of what they've sold for locally. Although you can shop eBay locally most people don't and you're probably not shipping one unless places ship free, I'd be leary of it showing up damaged though.
Anything that gets used is a lousy investment unless its made of precious metals or rare jems. It might hold value for now but the next best newest version can always sink the value of the past generation or any number of other things can effect price. Better to ask what your willing to pay for what fills your need now and into the future and worry about resale when or if the time comes.

Personally, I think that's high for used. Everyone around here seems to think their used items are worth new retail too. Sure the retail prices are sky high, but no one pays that, and if you can get on the Rock and Roll Cab truck or if your dealer has one on his truck he'd like to convert to cash, you should be able to buy a new 68" Epiq for around the $6k mark.

The basic 68" Epiq starts are $12K list price. Yeah SO will cut it down, but if you finance tack $3K in interest back onto what you paid. I'd love to see someone buy one for $6K new cash price. That's near whet dealers are asking for lightly used near new condition ones. Figure most techs have $10K invested in one by the time its said and done.

Good information, thanks guys. Was really curious what they could be bought for new. I'm not a professional tech, my Snap On guy didn't seem too interested in talking about boxes, and honestly it is way above what I need. Not above what I want however lol

The KRL Series offers a ton of 30 inch deep options. Here's a link to a digital catalog (more are around here for download) which may help make it easier to differentiate between the models....the Snap On website is horrible.

I ended up buying a 72" box from strictlytoolboxes.com and have been very happy with it for the past 2 years I've owned it. I paid $2975 delivered. The box is 72" wide by 30" deep and 46 1/4" tall.

Granted I had to drive 8 hours each way. Though with fuel stops and getting breakfast and lunch. Plus the pick up I had almost 20 hours into it. Gave my uncle and I something to do. I bought a snap on KRL 1033 for $3500 and had $75 in tolls and $105 in fuel. I paid cash and I own it. I found it while searching some sites. Was almost going to buy one at a place in Delaware for the same thing at a little more then $5500. Glad I found that one. Saved me enough to buy a drill press!

I was just quoted $6500 for a 68" Epiq off the truck, brand new. The one with 3 full width drawers. $12,000 is the msrp I guess. If you buy new, you get the warranty.
