My F-71-B ratchet will no longer hold a socket or extension bar. I need a 30 tooth gear for it. Will the 30 tooth gear from the RKRAFN720 kit or F730 kit fit into my ratchet head?
It is dated 1949, an early pear head. Any help would be appreciated.

I think the kit for the f730 is different. The pawl is smaller and designed to lock into larger teeth.
You may need rkra962.

I have tried customer service, and they could only offer me a new ratchet. I missed a RKRA 962 by 3 weeks on ebay. This ratchet came with a 30 tooth gear originally. If all else fails, I shall purchase a kit with a 30 tooth gear and hope that the diameter matches the old one, which measures .868 inches
Thanks to all for the great help.

Hello, I am aware that this is a very old thread, and you have probably found your answer long ago and in a far away galaxy...lol. But I had some spare time to add a little input about your question, and for others who wonder the same thing. The answer is yes! The modern RKRAFN720, 30 tooth gear will directly fit into a F-71-B ratchet wrench from 1949. However, and here is the kicker, the way that the FN720/730 gears are made in modern newer repair kits (RKRAFN720), is the same specs/dimensions that S-O made for the F730 & F71G gear in those repair kits. This means that there will be a lower height difference gap to the back of the gear (because this style uses the headcap) and the ratchet head, which is how S-O made both gear assemblies. So the kicker is that even while FN720/730 DO NOT use a headcap, the gear supplied in the repair kit gear is the same one and only gear supplied with the F730 & F71G gear assembly. When this mentioned gear is installed into any F71 (except the G model) FN720 or 730, there will be about a 1/16" drop down gap between the back of the gear and the ratchet head, due to the fact that there is no headcap able to be used for these ratchets. Now, back years ago, and I'm talking decades ago (before S-O discontinued the F-71 repair kits) it was possible to find the correct 30 tooth gear in a 962 kit. I have seen several F-71's with a F830 gear installed in them. Now this option will work as well, however the F830's gear is a just hair thinner compared to the F-71 gear. There are ways to solve this issue, but I'm not going to go into that because I'm drifting too far off in another direction. I personally would go for the 30 tooth gear meant for the F-723 because the machining specs are identical to the F-71's gear, and there is a bonus, you now have a F-71-B quick release ratchet! So, I hope I helped answer this old question for others who still have or use an old F-71 ratchet wrench out there, which probably isn't too many these days. They have more or less become collectors pieces now in 2024.👍-J
