I picked up a Snap-on Ferret F70n today dated 1939. It is very rusty and in incredibly poor condition, the ratchet barely works. What is the best thing for me to do with it?

Send it to me. You don't need the headache.

Have you tried to take it apart? When I pick up something like that, I usually soak it in a 50/50 mixture of Acetone and Automatic Transmission fluid.

I'm sure others will pipe in with a variety of solutions.

Here is a Picture, I was definitely considering turning it in for a new one as I feel it is too far gone to really be able to clean it up very well. It appears that most of the chrome has peeled off due to the large amount of corrosion. Do you think a snap on guy would be willing to exchange it under warranty?

It's probably still functional. I have one, not as rusted as that, that still works great.
I'd soak the head in a penetrating fluid, disassemble and clean, wire brush and lube, and I bet it would work again.

Disassemble, degrease and soak in EvapoRust will get it ready to work again. After that the only issue might be sharp edges if the chrome is flaking.

I just got into parkerizing, it's pretty easy and I'm going to do some old wrenches that will otherwise just keep rusting in my humid un-heated garage. I did a trial wrench from a bucket of tools and it turned out ok. Look up DIY parkerizing on Google it's all over mostly for guns but if it's ferrus metal it will take the phosphate coating.
