Snap On F710D replacement parts. Cheaper on ebay?

I have a Snap On F710D that I've had for well over 20 years, and the gear was stripped from the beginning. Been in my box all this time. I finally decided to fix it. I go to ebay, and found this....

Would this be a better deal than through Snap on. I never can get anyone from Snap on in my area. As if they don't exist. Is this a good deal;?

Wow! I almost pulled the trigger on the ebay version. ****, that's quite a difference. I just need to see if I can find a dealer in my area. I see the truck, but no way to contact them unless I chase down the truck.

If you buy it off the website, you can buy the SPP744 while you're at it. The dealer won't let you have his SPP744.

Well, I'm impressed as hell. I called Snap On, and told them that I bought the ratchet back in the late 1980s used. Guy asked me my address, and an order number and a complete rebuild kit is on it's way. I might actually get to use that ratchet yet. It's funny, before the internet, I'd carry that ratchet on my truck floor board waiting for the chance to run in to the Snap on truck. Nothing. I'd take it out, there'd be the damn Snap on dude. Anyways, thought you all'd like to know. The F710D will ratchet again along with my other Snap on's!

I just rebuilt a SL710. I used an old tack lifter I had laying around to compress the spring. The kit I got didn't have a ball bearing that sat on the spring, like the original. It was a plunger that had a radiused top, and a necked down stem that fit inside the spring. Definitely easier to assemble, and with less cursing, than the ball bearing.

The fella I was talking with, was decent enough that he probably slipped one in, though with his India accent, I might have mistook him too!

I remember thinking at the time of assembly....... Ahhh this will be easy. HAH! I wound up customizing a feeler gauge to something similar to that.

Glad to see you were successful with the 3/8" drive. The ball and spring setup on the 1/4" drive ratchets were (for me anyway) beyond a PITA. The plunger/spring setup sounds like a good alternative.
