I was at the flea market this morning, and I picked up a Snap On F720 3/8 drive ratchet. I brought it home and took it apart to clean it, and there are a couple of the teeth on the gear missing. The Snap on web site list a ratchet repair kit for this ratchet for $10.00. I'm new to this, does the repair kit include a replacement gear?

Thanks for the quick response Diesel-Mech. Is this something the Snap On trucks would stock, or would I be better off ordering it off of the web site, especially since I would have to hunt down a truck since I'm not a professional tech.

free shipping on the website, and for 10 bucks....it'd be easier then tracing down a snap on driver, the driver would stock the rebuild kit though, if you do choose to flag one down

You might email Snap-On customer service; some here have gotten them to ship it out to the customer for free! :)

Yes it includes all of the internals and a new cover plate.

The repair kit does include all of the internals but it does NOT include a new coverplate. The part number for the repair kit you need is an RKRAF730. This kit will actually have a finer tooth gear than was originally in the F720 ratchet. Most people see the change in gear as an improvement. If you send an email using the customer service link on the Snap-on website you should get a response offering a repair kit to be sent out to you free of charge. Most trucks should stock the needed kit to repair this ratchet. If you do end up ordering and paying for one, please order it through the link in my sig.

Kraftwerk,

A lot of people keep a repair kit on hand "just in case" so they can get a ratchet up and running and not wait on the truck. They are also "guaranteed for life" to the original owner only although our guy will replace/fix tools that he knows have been bought off of CL or EBay.

It depends on how good a customer you are and how the dealer looks at it. Sears is getting that way for "pros" that use their tools. Good luck getting one made up when you are in shop clothes...

Bump. Does this kit have a new dust cover (not coverplate)? Mine is all scratches up from someone trying to remove it but did not remove it successfully.

It DOES NOT include a new cover plate! I got this exact kit in the mail this week. I have never gotten a snap on kit that did include a new cover plate for that mater.

Yeah I don't expect it to come with a new cover plate. Just the dust cover. I ordered another one from Snappy since I didn't know :/. Oh well it's always good to have one laying around.

I thank all the posters for the hints on getting a Snap On ratchet fixed. I have stubby 3/8" which I bought new when I was in business. The truck used to come around the shop and the driver/sales guy would fix things like that. Since those days I have not really found much goodwill from Snap On guys; probably because I don't have a shop anymore.
I know there is a lot of talk about Craftsman/Snap On and their replacement policies; I managed to snap an old Craftsman 1/2" drive 4" extension in half and got it replaced with absolutely no hassle. I was impressed as I had pretty much abused the tool.

Craftsman by far have really good warranty. The tool truck guys are good as long as you buy tools and pay every week. But when you stop or slow down on buying so do their service and warranty. I took two of my 3/8 drive ratchets which I had for ever and needed some fixing. Took them to Sears and I was offered two new ones or if I wanted them repaired. I took the repair option. The kind young man had them repaired on the spot. Shook my hand and thanked me. Now you be the judge to good service.
