I bought what was supposed to be a "brand new" Snap On F80 on ebay for $60.

What arrived today appears to be a used F80FOD with rough rivets, a tiny knick in the head and a scuff on the handle.

I sent the seller an email.

What would you do?

I wouldn’t make a fuss over the scuff on the handle, not sure what’s going on with rivets though.

It’s not uncommon for New tools to have small inferfections, I don’t see anything in the picture to warrant concern. If you went into the deal expecting a F80 and it was advertised as such, I would simply file a “item not as described” IF the seller doesn’t make it right, Maybe he sent the wrong ratchet?

Maybe a link to the listing?

In my opinion it doesn’t look authentic. Snap on rats have counter sunk torx. You know for rebuilding. Never seen one riveted

It's an FOD ratchet (foreign object damage), with somethings they dont want the screws and other stuff potentially falling out and causing problems. Typically used in aircraft repair.

Defiantly not as described per the auction description & pictures.

It’s designed not to be taken apart.

FOD stands for Foreign Object Debris

You received the wrong ratchet

I have 3 of those ratchets that I got though a Air Force auction, FOD ratchets are primarily made for aviation fields where FOD (Foreign Object Damage) is a concern. Little background I have been a aircraft weapons system technican for the last 17 years and FOD is always a major concern. Basically something could get sucked into an aircraft engine and ruin it (FOD Out the motor) The ratchet utilizes rivets because they will almost never come out so thus not creative any FOD problems. In all of our tool boxes (99% Snap on) any tool that has screw like a tape measure gets coated in a epoxy so that the screws won't fall out. Hell we have magnetic bit adapters that they pull the damn magnets out of just because there afraid of them falling out, anoying as hell when you are trying to pull off a panel that has 50 fasteners and your standing over it, damn bit is always falling out which is stupid as hell to me because there you go FOD hazard. Basically anything that could possibly fall out or come apart gets double bubbled in place to prevent that. I just swapped my 3/8 FOD out for an 80 mine was a 36 tooth i think and I didn't like it at all, the 80 is 10X smoother. I have 2 36t snapon 1/4 FOD ratchets and I dont really care for either, doubt I could break them but there not smooth at all. I would sell them but since there pretty much unserviceable with the rivets no one really wants them. Only way you could tear those ratchets apart is to grind off the rivets.

I haven't seen a actual FOD ratchet used in years they fazed them out years ago when they started putting the 80's in new tool boxes, but as soon as they get a brand new 80 from snap on they put the damn epoxy over the screws, doesn't make a damn bit of difference to us since we dont ever service the tools if they mess up we just turn them back in and get new ones.

Photos in listing are terrible. The “new” f80 ratchets that I have seen listed are not in any plastic or box so I would expect some small imperfections . However you ordered a f80 ratchet not the f80fod. He seems to have good feedback so hopefully he will get you taken care of. eBay should step in and help out if not .

Looks about right to me. 2 whole photos. EXTRA DARK over the affected area so you can’t see the flaws. Tell him off. I’m tired of people trying to pass along broken and worn ****. That might be new but it has major flaws and should be described as so.

It's a different ratchet. The one in the photos clearly has torx screws. They look similar from the back so I'm sure it was just an honest mistake. When you ship a lot you tend to over look things.

That's pretty cut and dry right there. The seller owes you your money back. The listing clearly shows (and describes) a brand new F80 that is not a FOD ratchet.

This, plus I raised the exposure for you:

Pretty simple, you didn’t get what you paid for. I buy and sell a lot on eBay. A seller like that with a lot of sales and no bad feedback will certainly make it right. Just contact them.

Ended up returning the original ratchet and offered the quick release version...which is fine by me. It arrived today and I'm pleased. LP90 for non QR moments and moods, and the FR80 when I want a quickie.
