I agree they make very quality tools, and I personally own lots of them. But there are lots of guys who can get by with something that barely resembles a ratchet or wrench.

Nice list. I love the student discount program. I think I am the only one in my class that orders tools. I dont know what the other kids are thinking. I am taking full advantage of this while I can. I was adding up my list of tools that I have ordered, and from both Matco and Snap on the list price is well over $16,000. I probably have spent about $7,500 for all of it. Im going to hate when the discount is over and I have to start paying full price or hunt the items down on ebay.

what do you need for the snap-on and matco student programs? my buddys younger brother is currently enrolled in a tech program at a comuinity college, does the school have to have a relationship with snap-on/matco or do you just need a student id#

 Nice list! They will serve you well.

A few comments and a question:

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...=17606&supersede=&store=snapon-store&tool=all

Hose picks are worth their weight in gold.

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...group_ID=20343&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

Just curious, why 12 points? Are 12 points showing up on newer cars more? I work on trucks and drive old junk. The only 12 points I usually come across are related to drive shafts.

You know, I hear Snap-on is running a special on tool boxes right now....:spit:

He needs to contact the Snap-On industrial rep for the area and ask some questions. Try these links from SO:

About SEP:
https://buy1.snapon.com/sep/about.aspx

SEP Login:
https://buy1.snapon.com/sep/

SEP registration:
https://buy1.snapon.com/sep/newuser/registration.aspx

Check and see if his school is listed in the pull-down menu, on the registration page first. If so, setting up an account should be easy. Snap-On does check to make sure your account is legit and you are a full-time student, though. Also Students can only order one of any item, :( theoretically to keep students from "reselling".

We've discussed this out here before though, and some people have dissenting views. Usually this ends up in a heated discussion about who's website ***** the most. - SIGH -

I don't know, when I placed my first order through my Snap On industrial rep, I actually faxed a copy of my tuition receipt to him to show I'm a FULLTIME student. I take 4 classes with 12 credits. I guess ordering from SEP is different.

btw, I'd change the 20mm wrench to 24mm, since I've never seen a 20mm fastener, yet.

Same here. Most of the students I go to school with have damn near nothing or cheap HF stuff. I talked to my rep and he said out of about 100 students, only 5 of us have bought anything.

you are damn right about that. ours is about the same, but 4 out of 5 would be buying from Matco because its website is more user friendly and cheaper.

They are 12-point because the SEP site has a bundle with the MG325, and the deep and shallow impact sockets. The price was to good to pass up, so I figure they will be good to have on hand.

Alright I have to ask just because . . . What kind of tools are in the class? Doesn't the school when it first starts isn't there a orientation about how the course runs / operates and what benefits are offered?

Are you sure all the students are aware they can receive said discount? I can fully understand if *Johnny* comes from a low income family etc or has tons of other financial commitments etc.

So I can see some going the HF route, just until they start making the cash in the job . . . But, if they have the cash and really believe these tools will operate under load daily in a actual shop with out falter they are smokin some serious ice!

The OP beat me to it, but the Snap on, Matco, Gearwrench, and some other guy come out and give presentations. They also have toolboxes setup in the shop, hand out fliers and pricing.

Our school has 15 bays, 12 with lifts, and in ground dyno and a full machine shop. EVERY machine and major tool is from one of the above 4 listed. All the teachers have fulled stocked SO boxes with every tool needed. These students know what's available, they just choose to spend their money in other areas.

I was ordering from Matco for a while, until I had a VERY unpleasant experience and have not bought anything since. I do about 90% o my SO shopping on the site, but when I find something on SO's site that is not available from the Student program, I just call my rep and he gets it or me.

The Industrial discount is the only way I can afford Snap On tools, and even still they aren't cheap! I surely hope no one pays close to full retail for the stuff!

Be careful, they are easily addicting! It looks like both of your flare nut wrench sets are all broached perfectly on center?
