Snap on handle colors?

I started buying Snap On back in the mid 1970s, most handles were Black, as are all of mine. Haven't bought much since the 1990s.

I've recently been poking around on various sites looking to add to my tools and am now seeing all these different colored handles on screw drivers, pry bars, ratchets, etc.

What gives?

Are the various colors to denote different quality/specs/etc., or are they just being dressed up to be pretty and increase Snap On sales?

Thanks for the help!

The colors have nothing to do with quality/specs. They're to provide an option to customers who want a different handle color. So I guess yes, it's to pretty them up and increase sales. They've been doing this for decades so its not really a new thing. The only exception is the sae but drivers. I read somewhere that they're colour coded to quickly identify size if you use a tool bag or something of the sort.

I like different colors on screwdrivers for my service truck. Tools get bounced around on the road, I see blue I know its a #2 phillips, I see Orange I know its a straight blade etc.

Oh, I see now. So colors do denote what they are?

Good idea there. I've cussed a lot plowing through a drawer full of black handles looking for whatever screw driver I'm looking for!

Not really, they have sets of one color but I bought a set of different colors one at a time so I could just see the handle and know what it was. The different colors are a marketing ploy but I used it to my advantage

Philips are red in my box.

Straight are red.

Make it easier to know what I am reaching for. Also helps with visibility over black handles.
