Here's a simple question, I bought my set back in '89, what happens when/if I ever break a handle??

I purchased most of my Snap-On stuff back then....and have only broken a couple of tools, to date (I very rarely abuse my tools!). I am the original purchaser, and I have kept all my receipts. I have heard that Snap-On keeps your name on record, I'd sure like to see that proved. Most of my recent purchsases have been cash with a local guy, I get a receipt, but there is no other record.

Break a handle, it gets replaced ( usually with a whole new screwdriver ) or the dealer orders the handle and fixes it. I do not see the problem here.

ngk22r - The exact match handle is not available, as far as I know. Are you looking for what would the closest?

Yeah the closest orange handle in size and fit. I want to be 100% positive on the one I am going to order this week.

The hard handles are nice in winter the handles dont get as cold. My hands have been frostbite & frozen it realy helps. I dont like the soft handles

Do the soft grips come off with out being destroyed?

The best way to remove a soft grip handle is to get a container deep enough to immerse the handle and about 4mm of the metal. Then put slightly boiling water into the container and to let the handle sit in the slightly boiling water for about 5-10 minutes. Pull the ratchet out while wearing glove and just pull the two apart. Requires less effort and prevents the handle from getting damdag

some of the blades will split the handles on the older "octa grip" screwdrivers. in that case make sure the dealer has hard handles in stock.

Fresh off the truck!!
IMG_20101217_192205.jpg

As far as I could tell my set was the first one my truck guy had ordered. I had to print out the list from here and give it to him. I think I'm going to order a green set as well (getting a green cart over the winter). Also looking forward to putting the handles on a few tired looking ratchets I have.

Merry Early Christmas to me!!!!

Got one of the red handles today for the 1/2, I guess the "6" red handle is on back order now.

Thanks again mrshaun!

I have a #1 Phillips, #2 Phillips, and a #4 Phillips that need replacement black handles. Not near the tools to see. What numbers do I need to order? TIA

Can any dealer verify that this is real or fake? I always thought that SO logo and part number were "engraved" not "printed" on.

Any updates on availability of the hard handle sets from the Snap-on website? None of the item numbers (bare handles, nor sets) come up, using the search tool...

Not to get too far off topic, but I have a few extra older SO #2 phillips (standard blade length).

I'd like to replace the blades on these, but while I'm at it, I'd like to make a couple of these drivers into extra-long blade versions.

**EDIT** mrshaun was kind enough to confirm these blade part numbers for #2 philips:

#2 Phillips, 4" (standard) blade: SSDP42IRRB

#2 phillips, 6” blade: SSDP62IRRB

#2 phillips, 8” blade: SSDP82BRB

#2 phillips, 12” blade: SSDP122BRB

#2 phillips, 16” blade: SSDP162BRB

According to Shaun, there is also a 24", but the blade alone is nearly the same cost as a complete screwdriver.

Are they planning on selling more of the sets? The P/N for the sets isn't even recognized on the SO website.

nobody knows for sure. they might be having serious :willy_nil at the factory trying to produce alot at once to meet demands.

if it was a limited time offer, the prices on ebay will go back up again and again and everyone will be like :willy_nil :dunno:

Ha, i was thinking about doing this, Just didn't want to tear off the soft grip without knowing what was under it. I'm not sure if I'll do it or not seems how someone borrowed it and destroyed the matco 88 tooth selector switch, looks like they used a hammer on it.

Actually the grip just popped right off with a prybar. It has some sort of glue underneath. It looks like it will work.

The handle is a SDD5R1RR. Heres a crappy picture for now. Ill get a better one later on. I was pretty nervous about drilling out the handle.
