Hi everyone. This is my first post here although I've been signed up for a while and read regularly.
I have recently upgraded my torx sockets to the gold snap on ones, I wanted these for a while but find them expensive when the bluepoint ones are so much cheaper and good quality. Anyway I finally got a bit of a deal on them so pulled the trigger.
I have to say I've got odd gold SO bits in my collection that are a few years old and they're great I love them, but this brand new set off the truck is disappointing. The T20 and T25 (1/4 drive) are pretty much unusable, they will twist out of the fastener whenever any more than a slight amount of torque is applied, they only way they will stay in the screw head is by applying force and holding the ratchet into the screw while turning. A cordless screwdriver? No chance, just comes straight out of the screw head. Today I used the T30 (3/8 drive) properly for the first time, that is the same but the others seem ok.
At first I thought they may have a coating of some sort and may need to wear in slightly but they are getting no better, I even tried to clean the tips up with a wire wheel but that made no difference. It's almost as if the socket doesn't sit deep enough into the fasteners, when a BP socket will sit in the same screw atleast 1 to 2mm deeper and have no problem removing or installing it.
My driver is quite a good guy and has ordered me replacement tips to see if they're better but said he's never had a complaint about them before. Any of you guys had a similar issue? And how did it get resolved? As I said I have older 'worn in' gold torx bits which are the best I've ever used, hence the purchase but the new ones almost seem too big for the fastener (without sounding like a crazy person)
