Snap on heritage vs Mac select

As of right now I want to leave this debate to just these 2. What do you guys think? Which is better? Both fit the requirements for my schools auto tech program and I get half off. Both are basically the same price only a minuscule difference of $100 between the two for a top and bottom. So which one is better? Or are the basically the same?

If you plan on going into a bigger box later down the road, snap on will have a higher resale value. I like the mac boxes as far as looks. Have owned both over the years, you really can't go wrong with either. Will depend on what you like as far as colors and drawer layout.

Had hands on on both on the truck. About the same build I think. Get a snappy if its a amaller box due to higher resale.

There heritage series is great I started with a kra 4107 it was a great box but have you looked into a cart because you will keep carts and most grow out of there first box

I'd get the Snap On. Higher resale value and IMO a better box.

Go with with Snap-On the reasle value on a newer box is just too good to pass up. Good example I bought krsc46 roll cart off Craigslist for 700$ Snap-On gave me 1700$ to upgrade to a bigger box. But instead I used the 1700$ and paid my truck account off then purchased a used Epic 68 for 6500$.

Heritage and Select are entry level boxes. Both are really poor examples of truck boxes and if you stay in the field you'll probably overload the thing fast. Both are shallow but the MAC can be worse depending on the model as some go down to 16", Heritage drawer depth is around 18". I know the heritage uses a special thinner gage steel for the frame, probably the same for the MAC Select. Find out if either have a voucher for full trade-in value. If not don't get either. Go buy a HF 44. If you have to get something get a KRSC46 which should be around a grand with your discount. If you MUST get one or the other and there is no trade-up incentive on either get which ever has a layout that is more appealing to you. Barring that I guess get the Heritage.

The Mac is 20 and 1/8 inch deep. The snap on is 18 or 20 I think. I get half off and either is 2000 so I'm sure when trade in time comes I can get as much maybe more than I paid.

I believe the numbers I stated are drawer depth. Maybe not. And yes out of pocket 2 I for a 4k box essentially. And still brand new.

Select box is good ,but i found the draws not deep enough ( front to back), to shallow or to deep ( top to bottom so wasted space and they seem set up for only mac tray products ,a bit clever i spose if yoir only buying mac tools.
The snappy heritage was more suited as an all round tried and tested system thats been used by snappy for years and works.

I would be looking at the big carts before a top and bottom box. I don't have a top box because I like having a work surface.

Not sure what Cman or Kobalt you're comparing it to. The frame and drawer gauge is the thickest you'll find at the price point by far. The drawers don't feel good until they're loaded down, but the same is true for any box. You asked for advice, just saying those two boxes at 2k are not "deals". They're entry level tin cans. 2k can either get you way more box from Strictly tool boxes or a little more will get you a nice used double bank KRL. Alternately like I said get a nice KRSC cart that you can actually work out of and the HF box for additional storage and spend the savings on more tools.

Lets not make assumptions, im far from recommending only HF options here and I certainly don't "praise" them. Simple fact of the matter is their boxes are extremely good deals whether people want to recognize it or not. A lot of stuff HF sells is garbage, however the 44 and 56 are not in that category.

The entry level Snap On stuff is definitely below the quality of the stuff Strictlytoolboxes.com sells for the same money. I really think you are just paying for the Snap On badge on their entry level stuff, it just isnt that great.

I agree that a big, nice cart will end up being kept longer than a ~40" toolbox.

I think if i were in your position i would buy one of the many Matco 4s 56s floating around for 1600-1700 and enjoy the relatively good quality and having a useful work surface.

I got a KRL722 for a grand more than that. Back in February, brand new off the truck. Pass on the "deal." You're better off with something else, don't care what name tag it has on the front.

Then go to Home Depot and get a Montezuma or HF and pick and choose any box you like.

For the size range you're restricted to, I wouldn't put out the money for either of those boxes. I'd buy a HF 44, when out of school, sell it or trade it in on a bigger box. The HF boxes are better than any current craftsman or kobalt.

Save your money for tools or a nicer box for when you go out in the field.
One of my ex coworkers had a Heritage box and it just doesn't impress me. Especially for that kind of money.

I'm a stack guy.
27" Proto stacks. I've 3. If I need more storage I'll buy more. I hate Cadillac-Winnebago boxes. They make no sense at all to me.
I don't need a place to store a blow up doll,snowmobile suit and 30 rechargeable tools(and a heated hoodie).I need something I can roll over to my engine stand, bike lift or welding bench easily.Stacks are it.
I suppose a Winnebago box and a couple tool carts would serve the same.

With your discount the KRSC line should be had for under a grand, as long as you don't have the need for a constant work top they are great to work out of and should get you through school and first job . Check out the Thread on some of the mods that people have done to the KRSC

Check with U-Haul, Enterprise....etc, they have pick ups for rent, Home Depot is another option, you can rent their truck by the hour
