snap on identification please

hello,
I am new to the forum so please forgive me if I've posted this in the wrong place. I wondered if anybody might be able to help me identify my snap on tool box. It is a team march box from the 1970's i believe, but i have found no others the same. It has many references to ronnie peterson and his helmet racing decals. It also has march logos in several places. I am not able to find a serial number, but there are over 50 stickers covering most of the box. Any help would be really appreciated. Obviously this is a difficult thing to value, due to racing connections etc. But i hoped to find another example of the same model to compare it to. Thanks in advance

hi, i'm not an expert in box iding, but i will say that you have a VERY cool piece there.

Great box with a lot of character!!!

Try the left side of the box, left lower corner.
Another approach which I would try: feel over the stickers with fingers. If you feel potential letters, try to gently press on the area. Then put a piece of paper and with the regular pencil quickly move side to side maintaining slight pressure (like "tracing the coin" trick".

Try to go through the site to see if something looks very similar.

And for the one in a million lucky chance: remove the bottom draw and see if there is anything behind (like an old receipt. Unlikely to be from the box, but at least you can probably eliminate all the years after the one on the receipt)

I am guessing your in the UK?
Do you have any names I have a friend who was in F1 in the 70s.


721 was a F1 model and the dash 1 was the first which I am betting was destroyed in a accident. Those chassis plates are difficult to get.
You could build a restored car on that chassis plate.

Trivia the 721-1 did two races and then the next chassis number was 721x-1 the 721-1 did one more race in 72.
On page 166 of March the grand prix & Indy cars by Alan Henry is a picture of the same toolbox with no stickers the cars are 881 and that was in 1988 /89 were the 721 was 1972
So it seems that toolbox was used by March cars and you might get more on Ebay plugging it as a vintage box with F1 history.

Brilliant find, thank you. It looks very similar to this. The only difference i can spot is the front handle being different. the snap on badge looks identical. this is the closest match i've seen so far. thank you

thank you very much for this. I am trying to get a couple of march books on ebay at the moment. There doesn't seem to be much information available on the internet at this time. I did get in touch with the gentleman who runs the marchives website. He was very helpful and gave me a name or two of ex-march employees that he is in contact with. Interestingly, he was very keen to procure the chassis plate from me. Now you've told me about the possibility of building a car around one, I know why. Thank you very much indeed. I really appreciate it. The chassis plate is actually for the 741-1 but it's a poor quality picture, my apologies for this.

May want to Google March chassis 741-1; lots of info including drivers associated with that chassis. Appears chassis is still in existence today.

You need a drawer removal tool. A piece of ~3/8 inch wide flat spring steel about 4-6 inches long will do (some use a "de-toothed" hack saw blade). Pull the drawer all the way out to the stop, then push it back in about 2 inches. Slide the piece of spring steel inside the slide (between the drawer and the slide) and hold it there while pulling the drawer out. You'll have to do one side at a time.

The badges and handles change around depending on the year it was built but the layout of the boxes will be the same.

Here's a much newer one, the logo badge is different and even the front of the handles on the drawers are different. But it's the same box. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=314357

Should be able to remove the slides with an old hacksaw blade, or anything else of similar size. Check Youtube for examples. I had to grind all the teeth of a blade once because it was a bit too tall.
