My Snap-on IM5100 1/2" impact started running full throttle when I hooked up the air hose.

Does anyone know the best place to get a rebuild kit? Or, it is better to send it in. First time having one I want to keep, go bad.

I rebuilt a magnesium impact gun purchased kit from Snap-on directly. If no longer available it looks like aftermarket kits are available on ebay/Amazon etc here's one that may work.

I believe Snap-on uses Redline D4 ATF for oil bath but not sure where I came across that info. I ordered a quart when I rebuilt mine and seemed to work just fine.

ETA looks like parts are still available

I typed im5100 in search bar if link doesn't work.

Well duh! I don't know why I didn't think of that. :eyecrazy: I don't see a rebuild kit, but I will call a dealer tomorrow.

I seen those kits on Amazon, but I would rather have factory parts, if available. I really love this gun. I bought an IR Titanium to get me bye until I can fix this. And it doesn't hurt to have a spare.

First Guess: Doesn't need a "rebuild".

Second Guess: Needs a spring for the trigger.

I had a IM510B. Excellent impact in it's day...and for a couple decades later. The '510 used a CP-style pin-type clutch. The IM5100 (1999--2002) looks similar to the '510, but with newer-style IR-style twin-hammer guts. The '5100 guts are similar to the IM6100, and IM6500HD.
