Snap-on Intimidator Tool Box

So I've been looking for a good deal on a toolbox for awhile. I'm always too late, but a Snap-on Intimidator ToolBox is listed. The problem is that even though I'm looking for a good deal...I'm picky. I want just a Red, Blue, Black...nothing flashy. Now this one comes up and it's black, but has the graphics on it. I kinda don't like the graphics. Can those be taken off? Does it ruin the resale of the box?

I may wanna add on later, would a black box match it or would I have to find a Intimidator top for it to look good?

Any other black would match fine but to remove the decal would ruin the resale value as limeted editions usually bring top dollar this model seems popular.

I also agree with this.

Stuff like this is like customization on cars. They're great for the original purchaser, but not so desirable for the next guy. They are almost a deterrent, because most will also be taking the stickers off. i know I would. IT would be the first thing I did after getting it home!

I don't know what price your paying,but I would wait and find a KRL with at least two full width drawers.
...or if the price is right and you really like it,like the poster said above,you could wrap it.

I agree with the special editions being only so valuable. The resale isnt that great on them unless you happen to be or find a buyer that wants that exact same box!!

I too seek out the more subdued color boxes. There never seems to be a shortage of neon colored, race car driver, or camouflaged boxes on c-list for less than the basic reds, black or blues. Probably some lesson in poor life choices of the original buyers there.

I have bought and sold a lot of boxes. Very few theme boxes command extra money and most times it lessens value. And if the box is in standard used condition, theme boxes will always be worth a bit less. One exception may be the 57 Bel Air box.

As to removing the decals, I have never done it but old graphics can be a bear to get off though it is doable.

Personally I am not that picky and if the deal was right, I wouldn't care but that is just me. I always care more about the deal while others care more about looks.

The key to getting good deals on CL is to be fast and always have cash on you. The great deals don't last.

I would wait for a KRL also. the long top drawers are nice. Check Facebook Market place and offer up I have seen some good prices there. Recently in my area a Very nice KRL 2 Bank (cranberry color) with stainless top for 1500 I missed it. It was a lady selling it (divorce sale it said). it sold quick

When I glanced at the picture I thought it was the older version with no long drawer. Maybe I should pay more attention.

so the next question is what would take those off, but not the paint? Also what about the color under the decal? You think the box faded or no?

If heat doesn't work, I think they make a specialized rubber wheel that goes on your grinder to take vinyl decals off. I haven't used it myself though, but hear others talk about it a lot.

It's a good box, good thing with decals is paint protected so normally get cleaner box but just need remove the cheesy stickers .
If it tidy to your liking and price is right buy it.
It will be worth more with stickers gone and all paint buffed up .

That may work but he is facing 15+ year old decal. They are much harder to get off when they are old. Often break off in pieces. Doable but could be a pain.

I just did a demo with a hot water washer removing a wrap off a commercial van going through an auction. What was on the hood was cracked up pretty good but the sides were intact. It worked pretty well but if you left the wand in one place too long it would heat up the paint and move it a bit. Have to be real careful.

I have the triple version of that box. I bought it new around 1997 It’s a great box. I have added a side and two top boxes on risers.
Snap-On man keeps bugging me to trade. I say why , what will I gain. He doesn’t have a compelling reason.
I love my box.
