I'm not posting this to rile anyone up. I'm posting it because I'm kinda stunned!

I am looking for a jump pack for my boat. A guy on a boating website (THT) recommended a Snap-On model. Started doing some research and saw the COO...CHN.

I don't mind paying Snap-On prices for Snap-On quality but I was fairly surprised to see this. Anyone know of the equivalent at a lower price?

Jump Pack, 12 volt, Snap-on

List Price: 303.55 USD

Your Price: 264.09 USD

Item: EEJP500

Country Of Origin CHN

... and the computer you're typing on is made in China so? The battle for electronics manufacturing is over and China won.

I have suspected that snap on is in fact Chinese made and maybe painted in Canada or maybe Americans stick the wheels on. I seriously doubt the quality. But I buy them for the name. Let's face it snap on gets you respect around the shop. Don't worry about where it's from just buy it and brag about it.

Besides snap on looks good. Feels good in your hand and they will stand behind it for ever.

I have this jump pack. The pack is made here in the USA, but the electronics are made in China. As another user said, thank the EPA and the idiot tree huggers. Since good old fashioned lead solder cannot be used legally in the US anymore, and now a subpar transplant is forced upon us, the only way to get what they want is to have it made overseas and shipped here; thus, the same amount (or more) pollution in the process to make the same thing that would've been made anyways.
End of rant, back to quality; I LOVE this pack. It never lets me down. Sometimes it sits with no use for 6 months, and it starts everything every time. I HIGHLY recommend this pack. HOWEVER, I will tell you that it IS a rebranded pack. Some snap-on trucks carry a brand other than snappy and blue-point, I can't remember the name now. It is their pack, rebranded. I believe the price difference was a paltry 30 dollars between the ugly gray box made by their company, and the much more attractive red case of the snappy. Personally, the 30 dollars was worth the difference.
Geez, I know WAY too much about snappy.

I really hate to ask, but could you elaborate on how a Chinese made jump pack translates into some Made in Spain torx drivers?

I just wish Snap on made it easy to figure out how to determine COO...

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I recall reading that the Snap on jump packs where OEM'd by Schumacher.

Remember when KAOTIK posts it's to bash snap on and the price, and to post about the one tool he owns from them the bahco made Torx set that is snap on's company anyways.

Some of the clore jump boxes used to be us made/assembled, I think you would have to contact them to see if any still were. The JNC950 was at least at one point as well as many others. But with the batteries being what they are I would imagine those are sourced from china.

My Matco rep has been peddling these the past couple weeks. Pretty tempted to buy one. I've talked to a couple guys who have bought them and they were all impressed.

Just ordered this instead. It got really good reviews from a variety of users. On the boat the additional charging adapters may come in handy as well.

In no way did I start this thread to bash Snap-On. I'm a huge Snap-On fan. Even as a non-pro, most of my hand tools are Snap-On, I was just surprised that their jump packs were made in China, but the again I have never bought anything electronic from them before. I assume their cordless ratchets and impacts are still made in the US?

The Chinese know all about RoHS, although my bet is that the world isn't any better off for lead free solder.

I'll bite.

First of all the US actually lagged behind Europe when it came to banning lead in electronic devices so this wasn't a sole evil scheme of the EPA like you're making it sound. Second, I don't know where you were purchasing electronics prior to 2008 but Asia has had an enormous monopoly on PCB and small electric motor production for decades. Its not like we were making the stuff here before anyway.

Apple products are all made in China. Ordered a battery and ear piece off eBay for my gf's phone for 7 dollars shipped. Took out the original pieces and they were both made in china as the replacements were

Please let us know how it works. I'll probably be pulling the trigger on one soon as my old jump pack is wearing out.

I'm wondering if you can charge it from a 12v source. Would be nice if I could recharge it with my truck during camping trips.

It works great. Charges via 110 on the side or 12v in the front for your car.

Yes definitely thank the EPA!!!

I like to walk outside without wearing a mask thank you very much.

That doesn't even make sense. When all of the factories that made lead were still up and running, no one went outside needing a mask.

The EPA made the final gavel drop, so yes, the EPA is to blame. It's not the dumbest thing they've done, but it certainly is dumb in a long line of idiocy.
I'm not saying everything was made here prior to 2008, I'm saying that now there's no chance it will be. If the same amount of pollution is going to be put out, an American might as well take a paycheck home because of it. That's my argument.

I have had better luck with this one. It's made in the UK.

iirc correctly, the original one posted in this thread is made by schumacher for snap-on.
