Do jump packs do anything that a spare charged battery in the trunk with jumper cables won't do? Besides be a little lighter. Just asking.

That is all a jump pack is an easy to carry battery with cables. We've had a spare battery mounted on a cart for years at the home shop. I have that SO jump pack at work and like it. When I bought mine, it was with in dollars of any other pro grade jump pack I priced.

a jump box typicaly has way higher amps then a standard battery does. leads to faster starting. i have the small red one that snappy has. that thing is the bomb. smaller and lighter than that one and i belive its a little cheaper. my snapon dealer guided me to get the smaller one because he only ever had a few warrenty issues with the little one compared to multiple warrenty issues with the one you have pictured.

Higher amps? Wouldn't have thought that. I keep normal jumper cables in my trunk to jump other people and a spare Diehard battery plus some shorter (9 foot) 1/0 cables with Tweco ground clamps for ends in the trunk to jump myself if I have to (never have, but who knows). I switch the under hood and trunk batteries with each other every two oil changes. Was just wondering if an actual jump box is something better to have.

I think where jump packs work better is most of the time they are cooking away on their charger so they are always a 100% when needed. Where as a spare battery maybe charged, but not 100%.

Can make your own jumper box and it is cheaper to do than buying a store bought one.Have one at work using a 300 cold cranking amp riding lawn mower battery and heavy duty jumper cable leads.Just secure the jumper cable leads somehow and hook it up to a battery tendor when not in use.I have seen car batteries used too with jumper cables hooked to the car battery too.

Car batteries will work but will deliver about half the amps a jump box will. I run a tow truck part time and run aaa road service and ive had trucks and vehicles that even my 1700 amp jump box would barily jump.

At the home shop, we have cart made up to tote around a truck battery with cables made up. The set up is probably 40 years old. We get a "good" battery form the junk yard every other year or so. The larger the better like a 750 or 800 cca is nice because it they last a lot longer then the smaller one. Most of the time we are jump small engines and old farm tractors.

Boosters or Jumppacks are just I think a AGM glass mat lead acid battery, lots of amp, small sized does deep discharge but not a lot of amp hours. HF has on for $34 on sale, Clore gets down to around $70, all of them basically battery quality the only issue.

Running around with a spare automotive lead acid battery isn't cheap with gas prices so high, and batteries are NOT safe unless carefully contained.
