Yes, my beloved K-60 is on the block. In case anyone just joined GJ, the K-60 is the collectible Old School Snap-on box. It's from the early 1940s and is built in an Art Deco style that is utterly timeless and will turn heads anywhere. Only selling because I'm moving and have waaaaay too much stuff.
My K-60 (yes, the one in this thread) is currently apart, but I can put it back together for the buyer. So far, I've cleaned up the slides (all 24 of which are good!), removed the drawer pulls (all 16 of which are good - seriously!), and that's as far as I got. One or two of the rails on which the slides ride is bad and will need repairs; a few of the drawers are likewise not perfect and one of the front side doors is a little tweaked at the bottom. To make it really nice, you'd then need to sandblast or strip it, respray it, and have the drawer pulls chromed. I could never decide between doing that or just enjoying it as a veteran of who knows what!
Those of you who have looked for good Snappy boxes of this vintage know how rare an intact K-60 is. They were working boxes, despite their beauty, and took a real beating in their lives. Slides and handles are pretty much unobtanium, and the set with this box is great.
I paid $300 for it and put quite a bit of work into it to clean it up - mainly getting all of the rails and handles removed (after 70 years in place...) without damaging any of them. I'd like to see $400 for this box. You get the bottom cabinet as well for that price; it isn't Snap-on, but it looks pretty good with this top box and does provide a nice large place to store stuff.
Local pickup only in Pittsburgh, PA.
