I’ve never seen a Snap On like that from the states. The top has a strange shape, the handles are way off. If you’re looking for a Snap On, pass on this one.

I think it's still snap on. Since there were a lot of deliveries to the Second World War under Lend Lease.the industry of the USSR did not produce anything similar at that time.

Welcome, and happy Orthodox Christmas.
Kamov design bureau is a very famous and prestigious Russian company.
The world experts for “coaxial rotor mechanism”.
The price of $400 USD seems expensive for Russia marketplace and also for the condition. But I would happily spend the money to tell the story over vodka of the tool box of Kamov in my workshop.

Yes, Snap On and absolutely worth $400 unless it's jacked up somewhere we can't see. Snapmom would know, but I'm thinking that's early 1940s toolbox goodness.

Yikes! $400 for that??? In Russia? I have no idea what the toolbox market is in Russia, but I wouldn't pay a day's salary in the US for that, let alone a month if I actually wanted to use it. The exception is that if you're a collector, assembling a Snap On toolbox museum.... I'm sure you don't have a Harbor Freight store, but surely you can buy a new Chinese built box that's much nicer for less money????

Welcome to GJ Oboltus, no idea if that is worth a month's salary or not. That's a lot of money.

It all depends on what you are looking for, Rinspeed. It's not as practical as modern boxes, but it looks great and fits small tool sets for DIY. If you ever run across one and do not want it - please let me know. I missed K-60 in much better condition for $500 last year. I really want one though...

You all need to realize that $400 USD in Moscow, Russia is very different than $400 USD in USA.

For me, the value of this tool box is the very cool story about where it lived.

Well, there are a lot of rumors about Russia. Russia is a country of contrasts: a lot of rich, a lot moor of poor and not as much of middle class. For a lot of people I know in Russia $400 would not be such a big deal (hmm, if it was for something else rather than toolbox - majority just do not care - Russia was never big on toolboxes for DIY people...)

Because in Moscow the majority live in apartments aka flats.....

Depends on where in Moscow. Some of those apartments are quite huge and a lot of people also have summer houses (AKA dachas)
But point taken - space is more limited for a lot of people.
I never saw a nice toolbox when I travelled to Russia - people usually either keep tools in boxes, self made storage boxes, etc.
From what I heard the factories had excellent tooling and toolboxes, but it was not available for common people
I tried to google Russian and Soviet toolbox and could not find anything (except metal box for UAZ and some cantilever toolbox

May be somebody from Russia/former USSR can give us more information?

They had thin sheet steel East German and Bakelite storage trunks / boxes for tools in the 70s and 80s (I own one) and Bosch storage solutions after the fall of the wall that were then made commercially available.

The boxes were mostly in military factories. The rest did it themselves. It was just stupid in the USSR to pay money for what you can do yourself. Here are the military boxes.
