Hello all,
I bought a snap on kr 55r toolbox a couple weeks ago and it doesn't have a lock. The box is in my home garage and I'll probably won't ever lock it but I want it right. The problem is I can't seem to find a replacement online. Matter of fact I don't even know what it would look like even if I found one locally. My local locksmith didn't seem to want to help. Can someone post a photo of one of these locks and possibly a link for someone that sells them? I have never dealt with a snap on dealer but I know we have one in town, you think he would be able to Order me one? The box is old, made in the 40's. I don't care if it's a snap on lock... Just one that will work. Here are some photos

By the looks of that D shaped hole, it sure reminds of a Kennedy tumbler lock. That type of lock is fairly common.

The snap on boxes I've seen tend to have quite a deep bezel on the lock, but in essence any 180 degree cabinet lock of similar size should fit , it's the latch that will take a little figuring out.
I would go with a nut fitting on the lock , the U shaped spring ones can be a bit loose unless the hole is perfect

As I mentioned in the other thread, I'm pretty sure it is the same lock that they used up into the late 80's. The back should have a nut that threads on. I don't think those old boxes had a bezel like the more modern ones. It all has to do with the placement of the locking mechanism. CWP1616L posted a good example of what your cam is probably going to have to look like.

Maybe contact this guy and ask him nicely to take a few pics

Any cam lock from a hardware store or big box store will get the job done. They're often sold as Drawer or Cabinet Locks. They shouldn't be too expensive. You may have to customize the latch lever to work with your box.

Sears sells a 3 piece keyed-alike set for around $20 IIRC. That will allow you to have 1 key for several boxes.
