Hi All! I have a few question on a Snap On KR1000 tool box. I have a line on one and the owner tells me the only drawer that has roller bearing slides is the very bottom. Any info or specific data on the following questions would be great.
What are the major differences between a KR1000, 1000A, 1000B, and 1000C?
What are the part numbers for slides on all 4 different models?
What if any are the main differences in these 4 models other than years?

Thanks so much!

As far as I know all kr1000 are all ball bearing. I bet it's a kr560. Is there a vertical chrome strip between the drawer banks like on the ends. A 560 has one, a 1000 doesn't.

I believe it is correct that the earlier models only had roller bearing bottom drawers, The letter behind the model makes no difference in my experience, all the same box. The year it was made should be near the model# some where on the back or on a sticker on the back. Do you have any pics? Also what is he asking for it?

I have a kr660 which is earlier than a 1000 and I'm full on roller slides on every drawer.

Kr500 series was friction slides. Kr600 series was ball bearing. Until somebody shows me a very early kr1000 with friction slides, I'm not going to believe there was one. While I'm not anti friction slides, I can't imagine opening a big drawer on a kr1000 loaded up with sockets with friction slides.

Usually the A and B revisions denote a change in drawer configuration or a change in the number of drawers. The KRL761 series is a prime example.

WOW, thanks for the replies. I am going to look at it sometime this week. I will try to get data. I have been asking the owner for pictures via text, but he seems unable to do that. He only lives about a mile or two, but our schedules seem to never work.

I sold a early KRL1001 and regret it terribly. It was am awesome box! I hope to join the KR1000 cub because of the huge amount of wealth from guys on this site.

My plan is that if it truly is a KR1000, and for some strange reason does have friction slides, utilize this site and your help to get the correct roller slides. Maybe you can clear up a few minor questions before I go look;

1. Is the KR1000 the only box without the middle chrome strip divider?
2. Are all KR1000 the same dimensions? 52x29x45?

Thanks!

All KR 1000 versions are the basic same thing. Dead giveaway, besides no center chrome strip, is the spring loaded casters.

Your dimensions are correct; it also provides 34,158 cubic inches of storage space and weighs 675lbs empty...bring a buddy along to load it if you do indeed buy it.

I have a KR1000 and KR1000B...the B has drawer dividers built into the drawers, the other does not. I have yet to see any with friction slides, doubt that exists.
If it is a KR, grab that beast and join the club:rocker:

My KR1000 is prehistoric. I am sure it was the original version, but the model info is on the back side, and I don't roll it away from the wall. All ball-bearing drawer slides, although the bottom wide drawer has "double" slides for additional weight capacity. The drawers have low dividers, which I dislike. I wanted fully-open drawers. (Got that on the KRL1022!)

The later KR1K had twin locks instead of the single lock; they had a fancier pull handle on the side, and at some point they eliminated the "secret compartment" on top under the rubber mat.

I couldn't tell you which revision got which mods from the original spec.

I just got home from looking at the box,and I am pretty bummed out. It was a well worn KR560, built in 86. He was on the fence about selling, the seller was waiting for my big offer, but because it wasn't the right box I was ready to walk. I am still looking for a older larger Snap On.

This site is fantastic, thanks for all the help.
