I'm also a huge fan of the KR1000, although I don't have one. I would love to find one.

I also wondered why SO put dividers in some drawers and not others.

It has repeatedly been said the KR1000 is built really well and heavy - even compared to the KRL series. (As evidenced by Chad, a dealer who has seen them all)

For catalog pics, thanks to stevejh82 for posting them up in an old thread I posted. This will get you guys the sidebox information. Note this shows the KR1200 top box which is the full depth version of the KR1100.

Anyone have the KR1001 or KR1003 (note no 'L')

i am fairly certain the L in KRL stands for the lock n roll system they put in the KRL boxes. the KR series had a detent when you close the drawer

Correct, the KR1001 and KR1003 picked up reconfigurable drawers but they didn't have lock 'n' roll yet.

I've never seen either of these models so I don't know if they were built as heavy as the KR1000 or if they are simply built exactly like a KRL without Lock 'n' Roll (I expect the latter is true)

thanks guys I have put alot of work into this box. When i got it it was missing the bottom trim piece.
I found it and got that on there asap. but i cant find the top trim piece does anyone even know what the top piece looks like?

Heres a pic of mine and yours should have the "eagle mat" on top also.BTW Snap-on doesnt make the touch up paint anymore. Its like a cherry red, not the standard snap on red.

Also did you see the "secret Stash" drawer under the mat ?

what i don't like, the handle on the side is very stupid looking and non removeable, the secret compartment is pointless, the lock sometimes works (have to slam the drawers for them to catch sometimes), the retainer humps have all broken off (that small nudge pushing the drawer shut gives a secure feeling the drawer is closed all the way). another bad thing is the drawers cannot be configured differently.

1. The handle is indeed removable.

2. There's a bracket at the very back of the box in the middle at the bottom that needs a couple of sheet metal screws for the lock mechanism. They back out over the years.

3. Drawer detents are still readily available from Snap-on.

Wow, that brings back memories! The guy who taught me how to do bodywork had one of those. I don't think I've seen one since he traded it for an Intimidator and that was several years ago.

Found this thread while doing a search....guess who has (2) NOS KR1010 side cabinets from 1994? I would be willing to trade one for a decent KR1000 box.

Very Nice! Start post your limited edition tools boxes thread.

I got KRA from the 80's and I am in love with it! I have a liking for words America and Eagle! I just wish the made the boxes deeper. I can't sell it and will not just keep adding top boxes. I am 5'6 so I have stool to access the top draws of my boxes!

If somebody wants one of these boxes there is one on Craigslist with the side box for $3200.00 asking price. Located in Orangevale area near Sacramento. It looks pretty nice in the pictures. Just thought I would throw it out there.
