Below are some picture of a Snap On tool box that was on eBay (link to auction). Is that the right number and when would it have been made, the sticker looks like the ones on newer boxes. It's got the newere logo and handle. What I'm most curious about is the bearing slides, in the auction the seller states:

"ALL NEW ROLLER SLIDES INSTALLED BY DEALER."

In the last few weeks two people told me that Snap On has bearing slide replacements for old friction slide boxes. Is this one of them? Is this true? Or am I getting a load of ****, one of the guys that told me that was selling an old friction slide box.

Well the picture shows bb slides and thats a late model handle and sticker on what I thought was an old box. Mickey, I'd be interested in learning the truth also.

Too bad the sticker with the bar codes is so blurry. That would be a good source for information. I am not anywhere near a snap on expert, but I would bet that would be indicative of a newer box.

The model number is odd also. I thought all recent boxes (at least 10 years) were KRL or KRA. They are saying KR400A. Wonder if its a Canadian number?

No that is not the correct part # ,it is supposed to be KRA400A
It last appeared in the snappy catalog #600 that came out in July of 2001
List price from November 2002 was $2265.00
Catalog 700 came out in Oct 2003 and it is not in there so it was discontinued before then.
It is all ball bearing slides and you can make out made in the USA in the upper right corner of that blurry pic.
The one shown in the catalog has the old style handle and old logo but they may have just used the old picture.
I just bought one yesterday off of of C L, it is still in the back of the truck.
I feel that I got a screaming deal ....$200 and it is in great shape, no dents, scratches, etc.
All the drawer liners were there , the key, and the side handles were never even installed, still sealed in the plastic bag.
There isn't a sticker on mine because the info is stamped into the back of the box.
It was made in the USA in 1996 and has ball bearing slides .
This 1996 box has the old style handle and Snap On logo.

This box was made for many years, the old version which looks identical is KRA400 and was last in catalog #300 issued January of 1995.
So it has to be from this time frame and the fact that it has the new handle and logo makes me think it was made close to end of production.

Hope this helps.

As to the retrofit BB slides I have no idea but I bet one of the Snappy dealers on here can shed some light on that.
