Guys

Years ago a buddy threw away a Snap On KRA-53A box. I mean literally threw away - I pulled in his drive one night and saw it on the curb with the rest of the trash. He was PO'd at it for some reason, and there it sat in the rain. Needless to say, it went home with me in the back of my truck and served me well on my workbench.

Fast forward 25 years - it has been sitting forgotten in my barn until I found it a few weeks ago. It had a fair amount of surface rust on it, which disappeared courtesy of my wire brush. I sanded it down, scotchpadded it, primed it and am now in the process of painting it with Rustoleum (Snap On) red.

In anticipation of returning it to my workbench in it's new state, I need to locate a correct "Snap On" cover logo and chrome cover handle.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ditto, Rustoleum SnapOn Red? Where would you get that?
I have been trying to get a can of touch up paint from SnapOn for a couple months.
I would LOVE to buy it from someone who wants my business.

REP12A, 12 oz spray can of Snap-on red spray paint. $23.25.

You should be able to order it from my website. Please register as one of my customers first to ensure that I receive credit.

Rustoleum (Snap On red) was meant to be tongue in cheek - since I am re-painting the entire box, I chose a few spray bombs that looked close. It isn't even real Rustoleum, but Ace Hardware's knock off (read CHEAPER) brand.

It has a slight orange tint to the red - actually looks pretty close. By the way - I used to work in a automotive paint wholesaler when I was a kid and a big part of my job was matching paint to samples brought in by bodyshops of re-painted vehicles needing repairs.

Back to my original question - any help on the vintage Snap-on logo or chrome front cover handle?

Thanks!

Vintage Snap on logo, good luck, try ebay. A current stick on logo is KN300BNS. The logo that the parts list call for is KN450ASV but it will be the current design. The only handles listed in the parts breakdown are the side handles (8-633).

rustolem sunrise red is very close.

Tried that. Now the small section I repainted looks 'cranberry' colored.

Tried ordering the Touch up paint three times in a month. Out of stock, don't know the number, the usual responses I get from SnapOn.com.

I know you don't have anything to do with the prices, but that's flat out ridiculous! :shocking:

Half that price would be reasonable.

actually that is not as bad as you think
to get a custom color matched and put into a quality spray can is not cheap.
you are paying for the fact that it is a correct color match. if you are doing a complete repaint verses a touch up then this is not the way to go

Sure, but wouldn't you assume they have plenty of this stuff made up and on the shelves? It's not like this is a one off thing where they're making it up special on order. :headscrat

Guys

Here's the finished product:

Certainly not professional, but a HELL of a lot better than when I started.

I found the Chevy 396 Turbo Jet emblem that I installed years ago - it cleaned up pretty nice. Now I need to find the Camaro script that goes beneath it.

Kudos to Snaparxon for the missing handle, and Rickster for the missing Snap-on
script.

Not bad for a 1975 relic ......

Looks great! I'd love a box w/ the solid front panel like that. See some on ebay. but never any close to me, and no one wants to ship one.

I've got a box just like that! Makes me want to spiff mine up. Mine is missing the logo, so years ago I painted it black not really knowing what it was. Oh well. Nice job on your's!

Is there any way to "verify" that the one I have is a Snap-On? As I said, it's missing the logo and I don't see any other marks on it.

That box looks great, good work and I like the 396 logo, my father has a 396 big block, 67 impala convertible that he is restoring with a factory turbo 400 and AC.

Might look at the bottom of the drawers or on the back of the box. might have to look real close. Not really sure on the older boxes... the other guys will let you know

Thanks everyone for the comments!

Hokie - look on the lower right hand side of the back of the box - a flashlight at an angle might help if it's been repainted.

Should say "Snap-on" with a model number (in this case "KRA-53A" with a 2 digit suffix (in this case "75" for 1975.
