I was lucky enough to find a nice 75 kra-59b and 79 kra-429b sold together on ebay , seller was not willing to ship. Luckily for me I was only 2 hours away. I put in my 1 big at the last few moments and here I am the proud owner of my first vintage toolbox's. I think I did pretty good , not a steal , but I think a heck of a deal giving the condition they are in. Grand total I got $155.01 into both of them. How did I do ? - thanks Art

That is really funny. I had that auction bookmarked. :lol_hitti I am about 12 hrs away so it wouldn't make sense for me. That was a fantastic deal. The seller cut them self short by not shipping them. They look really nice, especially for ~$75 each. Both keys, drawer liners, they look to be in really good condition. Yea you got a fantastic deal. I might even say a deal of a lifetime. I was really surprised that they didn't go for more. Just goes to show location is everything.

What do you plan to do with them?

Welcome to GJ  O and you **** (Don't worry that is a good thing around here, means you got a great deal we are all jeolus of)

EDIT, Just kinda FYI, I have the same boxes, actually mine are a bit newer (1985 mid and 1979 top). I love the top box, the mid box is handy, but so not worth the price they usually sell for IMHO.

yeah ,thanks guys , do you have any idea how hard it was to not bid on those things and get it to say "your the current high bidder "? haha . I've screwed myself over too many times by getting into a bidding war with the people on the other side . I stuck to my guns and said I wasn't going to bid at all till 10 seconds left , and I did. Now it could have backfired and the person might of had an automatic bid in place to go up higher than I was going to go , but that was the risk I was willing to take.

The lady did mentioned that people from Texas wanted both boxes , but im guessing it was a hassle to ship , regardless i'm tickled pink ( or red in this case )

can some1 give me a general idea of what my 2 boxes i just bought are usually worth ? thanks

Why, are you looking to resell?

As I stated before, price is very location dependent. Obviously in your area they ain't worth much over $150. :lol_hitti

The middle boxes CAN be highly sought after by some. Not sure why. Ebay is the way to get the most money out of them. Obviously in your area they are not sought after though. I was really surprised when the bid ended at $150. :dunno:

Shoot me a PM and we can discuss further if you want.

BTW, your wife's grandfather has some nice boxes. Looks like KR56 top and I don't recall the bottom off the top of my head.

The 59B isn't especially rare, so the much more usable top box sometimes sells for less than the rare but not especially utilitarian middie.

IMHO, you got a good deal, but it is to be hoped not the deal of a lifetime.

I've been looking for a 429 for over 2 years!.....I'd love a mid 60s model but hey, I ain't that picky. Good score!

What would you be willing to pay for one? No I am not looking to sell mine, I am just curious. I have seen what they sell for on ebay, and I just don't understand why.

Nice deal. You ****.

I paid $173.50 for my KRA59C brand new in 1977.

Still have it and the two-drawer middle box sitting on my 1978 bottom chest.

I've said it before, I will say it again. Steevo, that is a beautiful setup.

Out of curosity what was minimum wage, the price of gas and or what did the average mechanic make per week back then? Just trying to put $173 circa 1977 into perspective. I wasn't alive then, but that seems like a lot of money back then.

I'd be happy around $100-125, I'm kind of a tight a$$. I have 2 59As on top of a bench, that would give me more storage with out loosing any floor space.

Yea, that is why I wanted one as well. Mine is a 1985 429D. I personally would have preferred an older one, but for what I paid I can't complain. It does add vertical storage, which is nice. Honestly I was expecting to be a bit more wowed, especially for what they fetch on ebay. :dunno: Collectors and their money. Here's to hoping you find one cheap, soon
