Greetings all, first post here. Question on my new-to-me Snap On KRA4114 and KRA4107 boxes. But first, pic of box :D

Starting to really dig the Arctic Silver. Especially compared to my old box (it was fixed up post-photo).

Ok, while cleaning up the box with JX101 (seriously one of the best chemicals) I came across a few of these rubber pieces.

I couldn't find them via Google or here, figured that was cause they weren't called "Snap On Toolbox Rubber Piece". My neighbor has the same model (but in plain Jane black ;)) and has found some but could also not figure out what they were.

So...anyone?

Thanks,
Adam

I must say that your box looks really good!

Thanks!

Can the rubber come from the drawer liners?

Fairly certain no- different material and different thickness. The picture doesn't show this great but the 2 pieces nest around each other. My first thought was some type of rubber bumper or cushion but didn't see anything at first glance. All drawers work so I'm hesitant to start taking bits apart to track it down.

I'm guessing they are part of a "bumper" on your slides, either to cushion when the drawer is fully open or fully closed.

Ok, consensus is detents. Snap On link and picture.

Think I can see that. With the front plastic latches I guess the detents aren't critical. Looks like I'll pull a few drawers and poke around. The power of the Internet strikes again!

Figured out what it is, now need to find the correct name and p/n.

Rails have two bumpers, one on the fixed rail (does not move) and one on the slider (moves with the slider). These **** up on each other when the drawers are closed. You cannot determine visually with drawers installed; also could not tell by sound or feel. Snap On quality strikes again it seems.

Pics!

Good side.

I have the same setup, only mine is red with silver handles. I wish that color combo was available when I got mine! I'm jealous, that looks absolutely great, it's my favorite color combo from snap on.

Edit; I just realized mine is slightly different. On the lower cabinet my box has a large second drawer instead of two small ones. Not sure if that's a new thing they are doing since my box is 3 years old, or if we have different models.

On a side note, I also had some drawer issues when I bought mine and had to modify one of my slides to make it work right. I still have a few minor issues with my drawers but I just haven't gotten around to getting it fixed yet.

Theres different drawer configurations. I think it changes the letter at the end of the model number. For example mine is a KRA 2107B.

Want to clarify; not having any drawer issues, just trying to track down where those plastic bits came from. Now that's not to say those rubber dampeners won't prevent wear and tear on the box, they probably will. But I don't see myself taking all the drawers out (they're already 90% full) to replace them.

Model numbers are:
KRA4114DPLB (top)
KRA4107DPLB (bottom)

Any reason why you gave up the old mac box? The snappy doesn't look that much bigger.

those plastic pieces are the drawer detents. when you give the drawer the extra nudge in the closed position it is what holds it back in the closed position.

i found a hand full of them in my kr1000 toolbox over the weekend. i am not concerned because the toolbox doesn't get rolled around and is not on unlevel ground.

nice box by the way. i have a KRB bluepoint box (same thing, just not as wide and has slight changes). the drawers glide great even when they are heavy. the only downfall to the KRA and KRB boxes are the wheels. they are not all that great

Correct; dimensionally they're close enough it doesn't matter (Snap On 40x20x50 Mac 42x18x55).

Few of my reasons.

  • much better drawer sliders (ball bearing versus not)
  • prefer the full drawer versus 60/40 or 70/30
  • prefer fewer deeper drawers versus more shallow drawers
  • got the Mac in Dec for a good price (upgraded from Craftsman)
  • got a gooder price on the Snap On
  • seriously, look at it :)

Plus I'd been using my neighbors Snap On (same boxes but in black) while helping make a one piece fiberglass headliner for his 68 Firebird and assorted other work during the past year. So I was used to the box and knew that I liked it. In fact I went with a very similar tool layout to his (hey, I already knew his, why reinvent the wheel) :bounce:

Agreed, not too concerned about them.

Wheels are fine for me, box'll be mobile the next few days while I transfer tools and touch up areas. After that I expect it won't move for a few years :). Turns out its current position in the garage is sloped just a tiny bit. I know this cause the drawers close automatically, especially the ones with more weight (hammer drawer > screwdriver drawer).
